  • Monitor legislative developments, political trends, and traditional and social media; translate findings into timely insights and recommendations for clients.
  • Build trusted client relationships, serve as a primary point of contact, and anticipate emerging needs and reputational challenges.
  • Develop communications strategies and draft and edit messaging, talking points, press materials, opinion pieces, and other client deliverables.
  • Lead client discussions and presentations, communicate strategic recommendations clearly, and help manage account budgets and scopes of work.
  • Develop and execute media and stakeholder engagement strategies informed by an understanding of Congress, the legislative process, and the Washington media landscape.
  • Contribute to business development through research, proposal development, and new business presentations.

  • Use firm tools, research, and technologies to support effective client service.
  • Collaborate across teams and respond effectively to breaking news and time-sensitive client needs.
  • Contribute to internal firm activities and operational priorities.
  • Build knowledge of the firm’s capabilities and identify opportunities to connect clients with relevant expertise.
  • Support onboarding, training, and the professional development of colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Current employment on Capitol Hill in a U.S. House or Senate member office, congressional committee, or congressional leadership office, with substantive communications, press, or public affairs responsibilities. At least five years of relevant experience in congressional communications, public affairs, public relations, or related work.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor colleagues. Senior Account Director candidates should bring experience setting strategy, advising senior decision-makers, and directing teams on complex, high-profile issues.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process, political dynamics, and the national and Washington media landscape, with experience translating policy and research into accessible communications.
  • Experience developing messages, working with reporters, and coordinating stakeholder communications; ability to collaborate respectfully across political perspectives.
  • Strong project management skills, responsiveness, discretion, and the ability to manage shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with the judgment to advise clients on sensitive or rapidly evolving issues.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision benefits with Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options.
  • Retirement planning with a 401(k) plan and a great 4% employer match.
  • Generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedule.
