What is in the spreadsheet

ColumnWhat to put in it
Company, Role, Job linkEnough to find the posting again after it disappears from the job board.
Where you found itLinkedIn, a referral, the company site. After a few weeks this shows which source gets you replies.
Date appliedThe day you sent it. Everything else is timed from here.
StatusSaved, Applied, Interview, Offer or Rejected. Keep to these five so you can sort and count.
Contact name, Contact email, Last contactThe recruiter or hiring manager, and the last day you heard from them.
Next step, Next step dateThe one thing you owe this application, and the day you will do it.
Salary range, NotesWhat the posting said, and anything you will want before an interview.

How to use it

  1. Open it in Google Sheets: File, Import, Upload, choose the CSV. In Excel or Numbers, just open the file.
  2. Add a row the moment you apply, not at the end of the week. The link and the date are the two things you will not remember.
  3. Fill in "Next step date" every time. A week after applying is a reasonable day to follow up. Sort by this column each morning and you have your to-do list.
  4. Update the status when anything changes, including rejections. Counting them tells you whether the problem is too few applications or too few replies.

Why keep a tracker at all

A job search usually means dozens of applications over several weeks. Without a list you apply to the same role twice, miss the follow-up that would have got a reply, and take a recruiter's call with no idea which posting it is about. A tracker fixes all three for the cost of one row per application.

The part a spreadsheet cannot do

A tracker records where you applied. It does not find the jobs. Most applications land in the first day or two after a posting goes up, so being early matters more than most people expect. Jobareer emails you new postings for your job titles within minutes of them appearing, so the rows you add here are for jobs that are still fresh.
