Unemployment Benefits by State
How to file, how to claim each week, how much you can get and how many jobs to apply for, read on each state agency's own website. Jobareer is not a state agency: every page links the agency and says when we checked.
Compare the states
The most a state pays a week. Highest: Washington, Massachusetts, Minnesota. Lowest: Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida. Press a state to open its page.
Each figure is what the state's agency says on its own website; a state whose site gives no figure is left out of that chart (9 for the most a week, 12 for weeks, 12 for job search). "Most in a claim" is ours: the most a week times the most weeks, the most one claim could pay at the state's own figures. The most a week in Iowa, Ohio includes what is added for dependents. In some states the number of weeks depends on the unemployment rate when you file; each state's page says.

Unemployment phone numbers by state: the number to call about a claim, every other line and when each is open.
The unemployment rate: the national rate month by month, and by industry and kind of work.
Use these figures
Every state's figures are in one file, each with the agency page it came from and the day we read it: download the CSV. It is free to use. If you publish something made with it, please link to this page.
Looking for work while you claim
If your state asks you to apply for jobs each week, its page here says how many. Our free job application tracker keeps that list: where you applied, when, and what came of it.
