Most employers put resumes through a program before a person reads them. See what a program can and cannot read in yours.
What it checks
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| A program can read the text | A scanned page or a resume saved as a picture looks empty to software. Nothing else counts if this fails. |
| Email address and phone number | Contact details in a header, footer or image are often skipped. They belong in the text at the top. |
| Section headings | Programs look for the usual words, such as "Experience", "Education" and "Skills", to know where each part starts. |
| Dates | Each job needs a start and an end a program can read, as month and year. |
| Length | Between 250 and 1,000 words is enough to say what you did without burying it. |
| Lines that start with what you did | "Built", "Led", "Cut", "Trained": a line that opens with the action is quicker to read, for people too. |
| Numbers | How many, how much, how fast. A number makes a line easy to believe. |
| A job posting, if you paste one | The words the posting uses most, and which of them your resume has. This is not part of the score. |
What it does not do
It does not judge your experience or rewrite anything, and the comparison with a job posting is a count of words, not a judgment of fit. It reads the text the way a simple program would and tells you what it could not find. A score of 100 means nothing got in a program's way; it does not promise an interview.
