About The Role
TCS is seeking a skilled and motivated GenAI Applied Research and Data Scientist to join its research team. The successful candidate will hold a master’s degree and bring strong expertise in the evolving field of large language models (LLMs). This is a hands-on role that combines research, experimentation, model development, and practical implementation. You will investigate emerging methods, assess their performance, and help translate promising ideas into reliable AI solutions. Your work will span multimodal LLMs, agentic AI, fine-tuning, distillation, inference optimization, test-time scaling, and reasoning models. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to connect research outcomes with product and business needs, while contributing to a culture of rigorous evaluation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have a strong foundation in machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and statistical methods, together with practical experience developing or evaluating LLM-based systems. Familiarity with one or more areas such as multimodal models, AI agents, fine-tuning, model distillation, inference efficiency, reasoning, or test-time scaling is important. Strong programming and data analysis skills are expected, as is the ability to design sound experiments, interpret results, and communicate technical findings clearly. Experience working with research or production datasets and collaborating across technical disciplines will be valuable. A record of research publications, conference presentations, open-source contributions, or comparable technical work is an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate curiosity, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a responsible approach to developing AI systems.
Responsibilities
Conduct applied research in generative AI, monitoring developments in LLMs and identifying methods relevant to research and product objectives. Design, implement, and evaluate approaches involving multimodal LLMs, agentic AI, fine-tuning, distillation, inference optimization, test-time scaling, and reasoning models. Build prototypes and run controlled experiments to assess model quality, reliability, efficiency, and suitability for intended use cases. Analyze complex datasets and experimental results to generate insights, guide research priorities, and inform technical decisions. Work with engineering, product, and other cross-functional teams to integrate effective AI capabilities into new or existing solutions. Document methodologies, findings, limitations, and recommendations so that results can be reproduced and acted upon. Contribute to research publications and presentations at appropriate journals and conferences. Share expertise with colleagues and mentor junior researchers and data scientists, while staying informed about advances in AI, machine learning, and responsible development practices.
