Job Description

Senior Citrix Engineer (Technical Lead)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Citrix Engineer / Technical Lead to support and oversee a large-scale enterprise Citrix environment. This individual will serve as a senior technical resource within the Infrastructure Operations team, helping ensure the stability, availability, and performance of critical virtual desktop and application environments.

The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on Citrix expertise, strong experience with Citrix Cloud and Microsoft Azure, and the ability to take ownership of technical challenges while providing leadership and guidance to a distributed team.

This is a primarily operations-focused position, rather than a traditional architecture or implementation role. We are looking for someone who can proactively identify issues, lead technical troubleshooting efforts, coordinate resources, and drive problems to resolution with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support the day-to-day operations, monitoring, maintenance, and performance of enterprise Citrix infrastructure.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex Citrix issues, production incidents, and operational challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers and support personnel across distributed teams.
  • Proactively identify operational risks, performance issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting efforts, coordinate cross-functional resources, and drive incidents through resolution.
  • Support and maintain Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), and Citrix Cloud environments.
  • Partner with engineering, architecture, and infrastructure teams to support application deployments, upgrades, migrations, and other technical initiatives.
  • Evaluate new infrastructure implementations from an operational perspective to ensure stability, supportability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administration, monitoring, and support tasks.
  • Support Citrix technologies including StoreFront, NetScaler/Citrix ADC, and profile-management solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and incident-resolution processes.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical production incidents as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting and maintaining enterprise Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Citrix infrastructure administration, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and production support.
  • Experience with Citrix Cloud and Microsoft Azure in enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Citrix StoreFront and NetScaler/Citrix ADC.
  • Experience developing or maintaining PowerShell scripts for Citrix administration and automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and drive technical resolution.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, or serving as a senior escalation resource.
  • Strong understanding of incident management, operational support, and infrastructure reliability.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing operational priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise Citrix environments with thousands of users.
  • Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Systems Engineer, or Infrastructure Operations Lead.
  • Prior technical management or team leadership experience.
  • Experience with Citrix User Profile Management (UPM) or Workspace Environment Management (WEM).
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud or multi-data-center environments.
  • Experience working with distributed onshore and offshore infrastructure teams.
  • Relevant Citrix, Microsoft Azure, or virtualization certifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

What We're Looking For

Beyond technical expertise, we're looking for someone who demonstrates ownership, initiative, and technical leadership.

The right individual will be comfortable taking charge during critical incidents, making informed technical decisions, mentoring team members, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve the environment.

This position is ideal for an experienced Citrix professional who enjoys hands-on technical work while serving as a trusted technical leader within a large enterprise infrastructure team.
