Job Description

Civil Litigation Assistant/ Paralegal

Brophy & Johnson | Austin, Texas | Full-Time |

Salary: $65,000–$80,000, depending on experience

About Us

Brophy & Johnson is a boutique civil litigation firm representing individuals and businesses in a broad range of disputes, including contract claims, business and real estate disputes, employment matters, and business torts. Our team is small by design. Every member works directly with partners on matters from intake through trial, which means real responsibility, meaningful case involvement, and visibility into the full arc of litigation. We're looking for a sharp, organized paralegal who takes ownership of their work and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The Role

As our litigation paralegal, you'll be a core member of case teams, supporting attorneys across all phases of state and federal litigation. You'll manage case logistics, keep discovery on track, and help prepare for depositions, hearings, and trial. In a firm our size, you won't be siloed into one task; you'll have the chance to grow your skills and take on increasing responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Manage case calendars, track filing and discovery deadlines, and maintain docket accuracy across multiple matters.
  • Prepare initial client intake summaries and assist with case evaluations.
  • Draft, format, cite-check, and proofread pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • E-file documents in state and federal courts and ensure compliance with local rules and judges' individual practices.
  • Coordinate document collection, review, and production, including managing e-discovery vendors and review platforms.
  • Prepare privilege logs, production logs, and Bates-stamped productions.
  • Organize and summarize deposition transcripts, exhibits, and key documents.
  • Assemble deposition, hearing, and trial binders and exhibit lists; support attorneys on-site at trial and in hearings.
  • Conduct factual research, public records searches, and basic legal research as needed.
  • Maintain organized electronic case files and assist with client communications and conflict checks.
  • Coordinate with court reporters, process servers, experts, and co-counsel.
  • Office administrative duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in commercial or civil litigation.
  • Working knowledge of Texas and federal civil procedure, including e-filing systems (PACER/CM-ECF and eFile Texas).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word (tables of authorities, formatting) and Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple matters.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and sound professional judgment with confidential information.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree, or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trial experience.
  • Familiarity with case management software such as Clio.
  • Experience in a small-firm environment where you've worked directly with partners.
  • Experience across varied practice areas and comfort shifting between different types of cases.

We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including medical insurance and discretionary bonuses based on performance.

Brophy & Johnson is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
