Job Description

Location: Maryland Region-Based

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Data Center Management and Logix Hosting Support professional to maintain and support the physical infrastructure and remotely managed systems powering Zantaz's enterprise hosting services.

This role combines hands-on data center engineering with remote systems administration, infrastructure monitoring, incident resolution, and AI-driven automation.  You will help ensure our servers, storage, networking, and hosting environments remain secure, reliable, and recoverable.

The position requires both technical expertise and physical access to our Maryland data center.  Approximately 80% of work can be performed remotely, while 20% involves on-site equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and infrastructure operations.

The ideal candidate is a resourceful, hands-on IT professional who takes ownership of infrastructure reliability, solves technical problems, and embraces automation to improve operational efficiency.

What You Will Do

Data Center Infrastructure & Physical Operations

  • Hardware Management:  Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical servers, racks, storage equipment, and networking infrastructure.
  • On-Site Maintenance:  Perform rack-and-stack operations, cabling, hardware diagnostics, drive and component replacements, and connectivity checks.
  • Equipment & Logistics:  Manage hardware inventory, spare parts, procurement coordination, equipment receiving, shipping, and replacement planning.
  • Capacity Planning:  Monitor data center power, rack space, storage capacity, equipment utilization, and hardware lifecycle requirements.
  • Documentation & Asset Management:  Maintain accurate equipment inventories, infrastructure diagrams, dependency maps, access records, and maintenance documentation.

Hosting Infrastructure Management & Technical Support

  • Systems Administration:  Remotely administer and troubleshoot assigned Windows and Linux servers, operating systems, virtual machines, and hosting environments.
  • Monitoring & Maintenance:  Monitor infrastructure health, availability, and performance; execute approved patching, updates, configuration changes, and preventative maintenance.
  • Incident Resolution:  Diagnose infrastructure failures involving hardware, networking, storage, operating systems, and service dependencies, coordinating complex issues with Infrastructure and technical specialists.
  • Service Recovery & Continuity:  Support backup verification, restoration testing, disaster recovery exercises, and approved changes with documented validation and rollback procedures.
  • Security & Compliance:  Maintain secure, patched, and documented environments while following Zantaz's information security, data privacy, change management, and applicable SOC 2 control requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:  Coordinate with Infrastructure, Professional Services, and customer account teams to support hosted services, approved Logix hosting requirements, and accurate incident communications.

AI, Automation & Continuous Improvement

At Zantaz, AI is integral to how we work.  We seek professionals who actively leverage AI and automation to improve infrastructure maintenance, operational reliability, and technical efficiency.

  • AI-Powered Infrastructure Monitoring:  Use AI-assisted analysis of server health, hardware alerts, performance logs, and storage metrics to identify issues and improve preventative maintenance.
  • Intelligent Patching & Maintenance:  Develop automated workflows for operating system and virtual machine patching, maintenance scheduling, validation, and reporting.
  • AI-Assisted Diagnostics:  Build tools that accelerate hardware troubleshooting, fault isolation, incident investigation, and technical documentation.
  • Infrastructure Automation:  Develop and maintain automated workflows for system health checks, inventory tracking, capacity monitoring, and routine operational tasks.
  • Security & Compliance Automation:  Integrate approved infrastructure monitoring, patching, and incident records with internal systems to streamline SOC 2 evidence collection.
  • Responsible AI:  Validate automated recommendations, enforce access and change controls, protect system information, and maintain documented manual recovery procedures.

Candidates should demonstrate an AI-assisted or automated infrastructure improvement they have developed, tested, and maintained, including its reliability, limitations, and operational benefits.

What You Will Bring

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven hands-on experience in data center operations, physical infrastructure maintenance, or enterprise hosting environments.
  • Practical Windows Server and Linux administration skills, including patching, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovery.
  • Working knowledge of networking, storage systems, virtualization, server hardware, and remote infrastructure management.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and replacing server components, storage devices, networking equipment, and associated cabling.
  • Ability to diagnose hardware failures, service interruptions, and infrastructure dependencies across physical and virtual environments.
  • Familiarity with backup, disaster recovery, change management, and infrastructure security procedures.
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation, hardware inventories, capacity plans, and operational records.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and coordinate with remote technical teams.
  • Practical experience with infrastructure automation, AI-assisted diagnostics, or development of technical workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise hosting facilities, managed services, or mission-critical data center environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Active Directory, Windows Server, Linux, and virtualization platforms.
  • Knowledge of server hardware management, IPMI, BIOS/firmware updates, remote management interfaces, and storage technologies.
  • Experience with network switches, connectivity troubleshooting, rack power management, and data center capacity planning.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring, ticketing, patch management, and incident management platforms.
  • Understanding of SOC 2, information security controls, audit documentation, and operational compliance requirements.
  • Experience developing automated patching, infrastructure health monitoring, technical diagnostics, or AI-enabled maintenance workflows.

What Success Looks Like

Success means maintaining dependable, secure hosting infrastructure, resolving technical issues, ensuring effective recovery procedures, and improving operational efficiency through automation.

Your First 90 Days:

  • Days 1–30 | Assess & Establish: Inventory physical servers, racks, storage, and networking equipment.  Verify monitoring coverage, documentation, and current IPMI/BIOS firmware status.  Identify infrastructure risks and opportunities for secure AI-assisted patching.

  • Days 31–60 | Build & Improve: Gather internal patching requirements and develop, demonstrate, and test an AI-assisted server and virtual machine patching workflow, including validation, reporting, and operational feedback.

  • Days 61–90 | Deploy & Integrate: Implement an approved automated patching solution for internal use and develop integration with ticketing and incident management systems to capture patching records as SOC 2 evidence.

Ongoing performance is measured by infrastructure reliability, effective maintenance, incident resolution, recovery readiness, accurate documentation, and measurable improvements in operational efficiency.

Who Thrives at Zantaz

We value technically capable, proactive professionals who take ownership, solve infrastructure challenges, and continuously improve how technology and operations work.

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy hands-on data center engineering, hardware maintenance, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Are equally comfortable working with physical infrastructure and administering systems remotely.
  • Take initiative to diagnose root causes, prevent recurring problems, and maintain reliable services.
  • Work independently, stay organized, and communicate effectively with distributed technical teams.
  • Value security, documentation, operational discipline, and reliable recovery procedures.
  • Embrace AI and automation to simplify maintenance and improve infrastructure performance.

Location & Compensation

Candidates should ideally be located near Silver Spring, Maryland, or within commuting distance of the data center.  Candidates must be able to reach the facility within two hours for scheduled maintenance and agreed incident response.

Location: Maryland-Based Remote or On-Site [Silver Spring, MD Area Preferred]
