The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on experience with enterprise databases, cloud database services in Azure, and large infrastructure transformation or modernization initiatives in regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform discovery, assessment, and dependency analysis of existing databases
  • Migrate databases using appropriate approaches (re‑hosting, re‑platforming, or modernization)
  • Support migration of mission‑critical healthcare systems with minimal downtime and data loss
  • Validate data integrity, performance, and application compatibility post‑migration

Database Administration & Operations

  • Administer and support enterprise database platforms such as SQL Server, and potentially Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
  • Manage databases across on‑premises, Azure IaaS, and Azure PaaS services (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance)
  • Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
  • Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexing, and resource utilization

Azure Database Services

  • Design and support Azure database solutions aligned with performance, availability, and security best practices
  • Implement high availability, replication, and geo‑redundancy strategies in Azure
  • Support connectivity between Azure databases and hybrid application environments
  • Assist in cloud cost optimization related to database sizing, licensing, and usage models

Backup, Recovery & Resiliency

  • Design and manage database backup and recovery strategies in hybrid and cloud environments
  • Support disaster recovery, failover testing, and business continuity planning
  • Ensure recovery point (RPO) and recovery time (RTO) objectives are met
  • Validate backup success and regularly test restores

Security, Compliance & Data Governance

  • Ensure databases comply with HIPAA, HITECH, and internal data security requirements
  • Implement database security controls, encryption at rest and in transit, and access management
  • Support audits, vulnerability remediation, and compliance reporting
  • Partner with security teams to protect sensitive member and claims data

Automation, Documentation & Collaboration

  • Utilize scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, T‑SQL, Azure CLI) to streamline database operations
  • Participate in migration planning, cutover execution, and post‑migration optimization
  • Create and maintain database architecture documentation, standards, and operational runbooks
  • Collaborate closely with application, infrastructure, cloud, and project management teams

Required Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with data center to cloud database migrations
  • Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server administration
  • Experience supporting databases in Microsoft Azure
  • Knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery best practices
  • Experience working in healthcare

  • Hands‑on experience with Azure PaaS database services
  • Familiarity with database performance tuning and migration tools
  • Experience with Always On Availability Groups or similar HA/DR technologies
  • Azure certifications (Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect)

Soft Skills
