Job Description

About the Company

Operative Games is developing next-generation narrative games powered by artificial intelligence. Its platform supports dynamic storytelling at scale through cloud-based infrastructure designed to power real-time systems and generative content. As the company grows, it is focused on building secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure to support its AI-driven gaming platform.

About the Role

Operative Games is seeking a DevOps Engineer to take ownership of its AWS environment and build and maintain the infrastructure behind its AI-powered game systems. This hands-on role combines infrastructure architecture with day-to-day systems management, with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), cloud security, monitoring, and performance.

The DevOps Engineer will work closely with engineering teams to streamline deployments, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, improve system availability, and manage cloud costs as the platform scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable AWS infrastructure using services such as ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch.
  • Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools to enable repeatable and automated deployments.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support development workflows for game systems and backend services.
  • Set up and manage monitoring, logging, and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, and ELK to track system performance, uptime, and costs.
  • Apply cloud security best practices, including IAM policies, encryption, secrets management, and network configuration.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support deployment requirements, troubleshoot infrastructure problems, and promote sound operational practices.
  • Monitor cloud resource usage and optimize infrastructure costs while supporting efficient scaling.
  • Balance infrastructure planning and architecture with hands-on operational responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or infrastructure management, with a strong background in AWS.
  • Proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security practices and the management of sensitive data.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and take a proactive approach to infrastructure challenges in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with game server infrastructure or real-time services.
  • Familiarity with Docker and container orchestration technologies such as ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of backend technologies such as Node.js, Python, or similar stacks.
  • Previous experience with machine learning or AI infrastructure and inference pipelines.
  • Interest in supporting creative teams and narrative-focused tools.

Location and Work Arrangement

Operative Games offers a remote-first working environment, with flexibility and trust as part of its approach to work.
