About The Company

Peckham Industries, Inc. is a family-run business founded in 1924. The company supplies construction materials, products, and services to communities throughout its service areas. Its operations include hot mix asphalt and ready-mix concrete plants, quarries, liquid asphalt terminals, paving and road reclamation services, and the production and installation of precast and prestressed concrete structures.

Peckham Industries is committed to serving its communities and customers through safe, sustainable, inclusive, and innovative practices. Its values—safety, integrity, dedication, and efficiency—guide how employees work together and support the company’s continued growth.

About The Role

Peckham Industries is seeking a Junior DevSecOps Engineer to help develop and maintain secure, reliable infrastructure for its business applications. Based in Brewster, New York, this full-time, entry-level position works alongside infrastructure, software, and data teams. You will contribute to the tools and processes used to deploy applications and manage systems across Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments.

This role offers an opportunity to build skills across infrastructure, DevOps, and security engineering with guidance from senior staff. You will help implement Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, code scanning, and CI/CD practices. The position also provides second-level support for infrastructure, deployment, and security issues. Clear documentation, collaboration, and thoughtful communication are important to success.

Qualifications

An associate degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related technical field is required. A bachelor’s or advanced degree is desirable. This is an entry-level opportunity; relevant experience may include up to three years in a technical role, as well as internships, co-ops, laboratory work, or personal projects.

  • Foundational knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and routing.
  • Familiarity with a public cloud platform, preferably Microsoft Azure, and exposure to Terraform, Ansible, Git, and CI/CD concepts.
  • Awareness of application security fundamentals, including the OWASP Top 10, vulnerability scanning, and secrets management.
  • Practical scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, sound judgment when assessing infrastructure changes, and a willingness to learn.
  • Understanding of IT ticketing practices and timely ticket updates. Relevant certifications, such as AZ-900, Terraform Associate, or Security+, are helpful but not required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and willing to travel occasionally to company locations as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks to deploy infrastructure consistently through version-controlled automation.
  • Implement and maintain code-scanning and security tools, including static analysis, dependency and vulnerability scanning, and secrets detection, within repositories and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Help build and maintain deployment pipelines, such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, supporting safe, consistent releases across development, test, and production environments.
  • Provision and support Azure resources and Windows and Linux servers, using automation and Infrastructure as Code wherever practical.
  • Automate routine operational tasks with PowerShell, Python, or Bash; monitor system health; respond to alerts; and help remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Support backup, recovery, and redundancy practices, ensuring procedures are documented and tested.
  • Document architecture, standards, runbooks, and procedures, communicate risks and progress to technical and non-technical colleagues, and provide second-level IT support.
  • Contribute to projects, follow change management procedures, and evaluate tools and practices that can improve security and deployment standards.

Benefits

This is a full-time position. Compensation is determined based on job-related factors, including experience, education, qualifications, and skills, consistent with applicable law and company practices. The role provides hands-on learning and collaboration with experienced colleagues across infrastructure, software, data, and security disciplines. Travel may be required to company work locations. The position primarily operates in a professional office environment and involves standard computer-based work, with walking, standing, or bending as needed.
