An early-stage, venture-backed healthcare technology company is seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead and scale its engineering organisation. This role is ideal for a technical leader who enjoys balancing people management, software development, and delivery execution within a high-growth startup environment.

The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day engineering leadership, establish scalable engineering processes, mentor a growing team, and remain actively involved in building modern cloud-based applications. Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team while fostering a strong engineering culture.
• Drive engineering execution, sprint planning, backlog management, and delivery consistency.
• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and executive stakeholders to align technical priorities.
• Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend applications and cloud infrastructure.
• Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines, testing practices, observability, and operational excellence.
• Contribute directly to production code and complex technical initiatives.
• Support hiring efforts and scale the engineering organisation as the company grows.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
• Minimum 3+ years of direct people management experience.
• Strong hands-on development experience with Python and React.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP, cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines.
• Proven success leading engineering execution, delivery management, and team scaling.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
