Job Description

You Don’t Just Manage Safety. You Build a Culture of It.

At GTC, keeping people safe isn’t a compliance exercise — it’s a core value that runs from the shop floor to the executive team. The EHS Manager is the person who owns that commitment: building and continuously improving the programs, systems, and culture that protect our people, keep us in compliance, and make GTC a place where everyone goes home the same way they arrived.

This role has real scope — OSHA, EPA, environmental permitting, industrial hygiene, workers’ comp, emergency response, and more — and it has real influence. You’ll be embedded in operations, partnering across Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, HR, and leadership to design safety and environmental controls into processes from the start, not stack them on after the fact.

And through our Ownership For All program, the culture and the company you help protect is one you have a personal stake in. Every eligible full-time employee receives an ownership stake in GTC. From day one, you’re not just joining a team. You’re becoming an owner. Your wins aren’t just good for the company. They’re good for you.

What You’ll Do

Safety & Health

  • Build, lead, and continuously improve the site EHS management system — including written programs for machine guarding, lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, fall protection, respiratory protection, hazard communication, and PPE

  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA General Industry standards, state and local regulations, and applicable DoD/customer safety requirements — and serve as primary contact during OSHA inspections, insurance audits, and customer safety assessments

  • Lead incident investigations for injuries, near-misses, and property damage using root cause analysis; drive corrective and preventive actions to closure and verify they actually worked

  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities during equipment installations, process changes, and new program launches to identify and eliminate hazards before they become incidents

  • Conduct regular floor walks, job hazard analyses, and safety audits across all shifts and all areas — tracking every corrective action to completion

  • Own the site’s industrial hygiene program, including noise, air quality, and chemical exposure monitoring

  • Manage the workers’ compensation process in partnership with HR — case coordination, light-duty programs, return-to-work, and OSHA 300/300A/301 recordkeeping

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs — new-hire orientation, equipment-specific, hazmat, emergency response — and keep records audit-ready at all times

  • Lead site emergency response planning, including evacuation procedures, fire prevention, and coordination with local emergency services

  • Partner with Quality and Continuous Improvement teams to build safety into Kaizen events and cross-functional problem solving

  • Track, analyze, and report leading and lagging safety metrics — presenting trends and recommendations to site and corporate leadership that drive real risk reduction

Environmental Compliance

  • Own and maintain the site’s full environmental compliance program — air, water, and hazardous waste permits (RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, EPCRA/Tier II, SPCC as applicable)

  • Manage hazardous waste generator status, manifesting, storage-area inspections, and satellite accumulation compliance; ensure timely and accurate reporting to state and federal agencies

  • Maintain SPCC and SWPPP plans; lead spill response and reporting when incidents occur

  • Coordinate air emissions monitoring, recordkeeping, and permit renewals for welding, machining, painting, and other regulated processes

  • Manage wastewater discharge compliance, including pretreatment requirements and coordination with local treatment works where applicable

  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports — Tier II chemical inventory, TRI/Form R, biennial hazardous waste reports, air emissions inventories

  • Serve as primary contact during environmental inspections and audits; manage relationships with regulatory agencies and third-party environmental consultants

  • Track and report environmental KPIs — waste generation, recycling and diversion rates, permit compliance, energy and water usage — and identify opportunities to shrink the environmental footprint

  • Support sustainability and pollution-prevention initiatives, including material substitution, waste minimization, and process improvements that reduce regulated waste streams

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field

  • Minimum of five years of progressive safety experience in a heavy manufacturing environment — machining, metal fabrication, welding, or similar — with direct floor-level program ownership

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) regulations and hands-on experience managing regulatory inspections and audits

  • Working knowledge of core environmental regulations — RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, EPCRA — and experience managing environmental permits, reporting, and agency relationships

  • Proven experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and job hazard analyses in a production environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence supervisors and operators at every level without direct authority — you earn credibility on the floor, not just in the office

  • Proficiency with EHS management software, Microsoft Office, and OSHA recordkeeping systems

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred; OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification required, OSHA 500/501 Train-the-Trainer a plus

  • Experience with ergonomics programs and industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments preferred

  • A track record of leading a meaningful safety culture transformation or driving measurable reductions in TRIR/DART rates

  • Familiarity with ITAR and defense industry security and compliance requirements — or the ability to learn them quickly

  • U.S. citizenship required
