Freight Broker
Job Description
Freight Agents: Independent freight agents work directly with shippers to evaluate their transportation needs and develop the best solutions by using client’s network of over 70,500 capacity providers. Although they operate under the client's umbrella, our sales agents are independent small-business owners who need to provide customers with superior service to be successful themselves. Our independent agents provide customers with personalized service at the local level with access to Landstar’s vast resources that provide the global support, stability, and strength of an industry leader.
Flexibility: Our independent agents have the freedom to operate their business in a manner that is best for you – giving them the ability to provide custom solutions for even the most unique challenges. Whether you need freight moved across the country or across the border, independent agents (you) with the client can help facilitate the move.
Dedicated Customer Service: As independent business owners, a freight agent’s livelihood depends on earning and keeping their customers. They have a vested interest in your satisfaction and have the backing of the entire client network to make that happen.
Experience: Agents are independent, but they aren’t alone. When agents partner with our client, they have the backing and support of specialized departments from compliance to finance, so they can help you every step of the way.
• No Start-Up Fees: Joining and launching as an independent client agent requires no initial franchise or start-up costs.
• Compensation Structure: Agents earn a commission percentage of the revenue from each delivered load, split between the agent, the capacity provider, and the client (which provides back-office and support services). Weekly billing and settlements mean agents can start earning upon moving their first load.
• Capacity & Equipment Access: Agents tap into their network of over 11,200 leased owner-operator trucks (Business Capacity Owners or BCOs), 18,500+ trailers, and tens of thousands of approved third-party carriers.
• Freight Flexibility: Agents are not restricted by geographic territories, specific industries, or limited modes. They can handle dry van, cold chain/reefer, hazmat, heavy haul/flatbed, LTL, intermodal, and Mexico cross-border shipping.
- • Back-Office & Tech Support: They handles billing, accounts receivable/payable, customer credit checks, claims handling, sales tools, and a proprietary transportation management system (TMS).
