Additionally, candidates should have a solid background in DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization with Docker and Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation. Eligibility for a Public Trust clearance and passing federal background screening are mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services utilizing Python frameworks such as Django or FastAPI, Java with Spring Boot or Quarkus, and Node.js with Express or NestJS.
  • Create secure REST and GraphQL APIs to facilitate interoperability across NIH and other federal systems.
  • Develop modern, responsive front-end applications adhering to US Web Design System (USWDS) and Section 508 accessibility standards, using React or Angular.
  • Implement comprehensive automated testing strategies employing Selenium/WebDriver to ensure cross-browser compatibility and regression testing.
  • Operate, monitor, and enhance AWS cloud environments, including EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, IAM, CloudFront, and Lambda functions.
  • Build, monitor, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins to streamline deployment processes.
  • Manage and optimize MongoDB clusters, including schema design, indexing, performance tuning, backups, and replication strategies.
  • Support relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL, ensuring data integrity and performance optimization.
  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code solutions utilizing Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to facilitate secure, repeatable deployments.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize application health using CloudWatch, ELK/OpenSearch, and other observability tools.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, runbooks, standard operating procedures, and configuration standards.
  • Mentor junior developers, promote engineering standards, and contribute to governance and best practices for software development.
