Job Description
About the Company
LMI is a digital solutions provider focused on helping government agencies achieve their missions through technology, innovation, and rapid delivery. The company develops commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI solutions for federal agencies, drawing on its expertise in federal deployment and strategic partnerships.
Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors, helping government organizations address complex challenges and improve operational outcomes.
About the Role
LMI is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to support IronGate, a secure data acquisition and transfer platform designed for complex federal environments. The platform enables agencies to acquire commercial data and transfer it into government networks through a self-service portal or direct-to-network delivery, with visibility, governance, and compliance throughout the process.
In this hands-on role, you will develop and maintain production-ready applications across the frontend, backend, and database layers. Working with Angular, React, Node.js, Express, and PostgreSQL, you will collaborate with product owners, designers, DevSecOps professionals, and other engineers to deliver secure, scalable capabilities that support cyber threat detection, asset protection, and operational decision-making. An active Secret security clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain full-stack features for IronGate using Angular 21+, TypeScript, Node.js, and Express, covering user workflows, APIs, and data persistence.
- Develop and maintain React application features while ensuring consistency and interoperability with Angular-based components.
- Design, develop, and document RESTful APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger for frontend applications and external integrations.
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL data models on AWS RDS, focusing on indexing, query performance, and reliability in IL5/IL6-style environments.
- Help design, containerize, deploy, and operate backend services and scheduled jobs within a Kubernetes-based architecture.
- Improve user experience with Angular, React, and PrimeNG by building responsive, reusable components for mission-focused workflows.
- Support data integration pipelines using Airbyte and related extraction and loading processes to bring in asset, threat, and operational data from external sources.
- Integrate services with AWS GuardDuty malware protection and follow secure coding and DevSecOps practices.
- Participate in code reviews and technical design sessions, contributing to API contracts, data schemas, and modular application architecture.
- Use AI-assisted development tools while establishing appropriate validation, safeguards, and test coverage for production-ready code.
- Support unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines for reliable deployments.
- Troubleshoot application issues, resolve performance bottlenecks, and improve availability and observability in containerized environments.
- Contribute to future architecture decisions as the platform incorporates technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Hudi, Elasticsearch, Kong, and Python-based APIs using FastAPI or Flask.
Required Qualifications
- At least 6 years of relevant software engineering experience, including full-stack development in production environments.
- Strong experience with modern JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining production React applications.
- Experience with Angular or a comparable modern frontend framework and TypeScript.
- Hands-on React development experience, including hooks, component composition, state management, and routing.
- Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and component-based user interfaces.
- Experience with UI libraries such as PrimeNG or similar tools.
- Experience building RESTful APIs using Node.js and Express.js.
- Experience designing and consuming OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including SQL, indexing, and query optimization.
- Experience deploying and operating services in Kubernetes and working with container technologies such as Docker and Helm.
- Familiarity with cron-style job scheduling and event-driven or batch-processing patterns.
- Experience using AI-enabled development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or other code assistants, with the ability to validate and secure AI-generated code.
- Experience with automated testing tools such as Jest, Vitest, Cypress, Playwright, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of secure software development practices, including code scanning, dependency management, and security testing.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI and Git-based workflows.
- Ability to work in Agile or Lean environments, support rapid delivery cycles, and incorporate direct user feedback.
- An active Secret security clearance is required for this position. Applicants must also meet U.S. Government security clearance eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in secure government environments, including Department of Defense, IL5+, FedRAMP, or other mission-focused systems.
- Experience integrating or operating AWS services such as RDS, S3, and GuardDuty.
- Exposure to data engineering and analytics technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Hudi, and Elasticsearch.
- Experience with API gateways such as Kong, service mesh technologies, or zero-trust architecture patterns.
- Background in geospatial applications, mapping, or spatial analytics.
- Relevant certifications, such as Security+, AWS Developer or Architect, or Kubernetes-related certifications.
- Experience working in startups, rapid-growth teams, or greenfield platform development within larger organizations.
