The role involves working across interconnected enterprise systems, including web applications, APIs, databases, and existing insurance technology platforms.

About the Role

The insurance firm is seeking a Lead Full Stack Python Developer for a long-term contract with the option to hire. This position combines hands-on software development with technical leadership across backend services, frontend applications, cloud infrastructure, and deployment workflows.

You will primarily develop scalable backend services and APIs using Python while contributing to frontend development with React.js or Angular. The role also involves managing infrastructure through Terraform, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, collaborating with database and technical services teams, and using AI-powered coding tools such as Claude to support software development. You will help maintain the reliability, performance, and data integrity of enterprise applications, including the LifePRO platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain complex applications and web service integrations across interconnected enterprise systems.
  • Build scalable backend services and APIs primarily using Python, while contributing to frontend interfaces with React.js or Angular.
  • Develop full-stack, cloud, and DevOps solutions, using AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery efficiency and code quality.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Monitor production systems, troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective fixes.
  • Write, validate, and modify code and scripts that support internal and external company systems in collaboration with the Database Administrator and Technical Services.
  • Work with the Database Administrator to design SQL Server tables, maintain data integrity, and develop stored procedures, SSRS reports, and SSIS packages.
  • Provide operational support for routine database maintenance.
  • Collaborate with product, QA, and engineering teams to plan and deliver features, review code, and maintain development standards.
  • Improve deployment reliability, system observability, and application performance.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, technical roadmap planning, and engineering best practices.
  • Lead the conceptualization and development of new programs, web applications, and web service integrations, including API development and management.
  • Create logical diagrams showing current-state and future-state systems.
  • Lead LifePRO application support, including evaluating, testing, and deploying periodic releases and new functionality.
  • Monitor the resource utilization and efficiency of programs, web applications, web services, and related systems.
  • Use AI-powered coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to support software development and engineering workflows.
  • Develop and execute testing plans at the program and system levels.
  • Monitor application operations, diagnose coding or logic errors, and implement appropriate corrections.
  • Review production data and reports to confirm scheduled jobs are completed and data quality and integrity are maintained.
  • Create and maintain documentation for applications, programs, and systems in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Maintain design and architecture documentation, standards, and best-practice guides, including disaster recovery and data center instructions.
  • Prepare special reports as requested.

Required Qualifications and Technical Skills

  • Strong full-stack software development skills, with Python as a primary backend language.
  • Experience developing frontend applications with React.js or Angular.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure management.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL, with additional experience supporting SQL Server databases, stored procedures, SSRS, or SSIS relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of .NET technologies.
  • Experience developing and managing APIs and web service integrations.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered development tools, particularly Claude, and the ability to apply them appropriately in engineering workflows.
  • Understanding of software testing, data quality, system integrity, production monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to collaborate with database administrators, technical services, product, QA, and engineering teams.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, including architecture diagrams, design documents, and system standards.
