Full Stack Python Developer ( 100 % Remote )

About the Role

Our client, a large insurance firm, is seeking a Lead Full Stack Python Developer for a long-term contract with an option to hire. This is a 100% remote position based in Chicago, IL.

The role involves designing, developing, and testing complex applications, web services, and integrations across interconnected enterprise systems. The developer will deliver scalable frontend, backend, cloud, and DevOps solutions while maintaining data quality, system integrity, and comprehensive technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications across frontend, backend, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps environments.
• Build backend services and APIs primarily in Python while contributing to frontend development using React.js or Angular.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and manage cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform.
• Monitor production systems, troubleshoot incidents, and implement root-cause fixes.
• Write, validate, and modify code and scripts to support internal and external systems in collaboration with the Database Administrator and Technical Services teams.
• Partner with the Database Administrator to design SQL Server tables, maintain data integrity, and develop stored procedures, SSRS reports, and SSIS packages.
• Provide operational support for routine database maintenance.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and engineering teams to plan and deliver features.
• Review code to maintain quality, improve development practices, and share technical knowledge.
• Improve deployment reliability, observability, and system performance while contributing to architecture decisions and technical roadmap planning.
• Lead the conceptualization and development of new programs, web applications, and web service integrations, including API development and management.
• Create logical diagrams outlining current and future system states.
• Lead LifePRO application support, including the evaluation, testing, and deployment of periodic system releases and new functionality.
• Monitor resource utilization across programs, web applications, web services, and other systems.
• Use AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to accelerate software development, improve code quality, and automate engineering workflows.

Data Quality and Testing

• Develop and execute testing plans at the program and system levels.
• Monitor assigned programs and diagnose and correct errors in application logic and code.
• Review production data and reports to verify scheduled job completion, data quality, and data integrity.

Documentation

• Create and maintain documentation for assigned web applications, programs, and other systems in accordance with departmental and team standards.
• Maintain disaster recovery and data center instructions.
• Prepare and maintain design and architecture documentation.
• Develop and maintain technical standards and best-practice documentation.
• Produce special reports as requested.

Required Skills and Technical Experience

• Full stack development experience with Python and React.js or Angular.
• Experience with AWS cloud services.
• Knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure management.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong SQL and PostgreSQL knowledge.
• Experience with .NET.
• Familiarity with AI-powered development tools, particularly Claude.
• Experience developing scalable applications, APIs, and web service integrations.
• Knowledge of database design, data integrity, and application testing.
