Job Description

Head of Commercial Marketing & Communications

Location: San Francisco preferred; U.S. remote candidates considered

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Skinner & Associates Executive Search is representing a growing healthcare AI company seeking a Head of Commercial Marketing & Communications to lead its entire marketing and communications function.

This is an opportunity to shape marketing strategy, build a high-performing team, and drive measurable commercial growth for a company developing technology that helps physicians work more efficiently and improve patient care.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will oversee marketing strategy, market positioning, brand, demand generation, and communications. You will partner closely with Sales, Product, Customer Success, and executive leadership to strengthen differentiation, support go-to-market execution, and accelerate customer engagement and adoption.

The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution. The ideal candidate can translate complex technology into a compelling story while building programs that contribute to pipeline, revenue, and a trusted market presence.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy & Commercial Growth

  • Own the company-wide marketing strategy, aligning priorities, investment, and execution with business goals.
  • Partner with the CEO and commercial leadership to drive pipeline generation, revenue growth, customer engagement, and market adoption.
  • Lead integrated demand generation programs, campaigns, and sales enablement initiatives.
  • Establish marketing KPIs, manage budgets, and communicate performance and recommendations to executive leadership.

Market Positioning & Go-to-Market Execution

  • Develop differentiated positioning that connects technology to customers’ clinical, operational, and business needs.
  • Partner with Product, Sales, and Customer Success on product launches, go-to-market planning, and adoption initiatives.
  • Translate customer insights, competitive intelligence, and industry trends into marketing priorities.
  • Ensure consistent, compelling messaging across products, campaigns, and customer materials.

Brand, Content & Digital Engagement

  • Lead brand strategy and strengthen the company’s market presence.
  • Build a content program spanning thought leadership, customer success stories, reports, blogs, videos, and podcasts.
  • Oversee social media and digital engagement programs that support awareness and commercial goals.
  • Use performance data to refine campaigns, prioritize resources, and improve results.

Public Relations & Communications

  • Own PR and corporate communications strategy, including earned media, executive thought leadership, and company and financial communications.
  • Build relationships with journalists, analysts, and industry influencers.
  • Prepare executives and internal spokespeople for media interviews, speaking opportunities, and high-profile engagements.
  • Anticipate reputational risks and manage sensitive or complex communications.
  • Partner with executive leadership on internal communications that support transparency, alignment, and employee engagement.

Team Leadership

  • Build, coach, and lead a high-performing marketing and communications team.
  • Establish the capabilities, processes, and resources needed to scale the function.
  • Create clear priorities and accountability while encouraging creativity and collaboration.
  • Remain close to execution and contribute directly where needed.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive marketing and corporate communications experience in B2B enterprise software, technology, or healthcare, including at least 3 years managing a team or leading a marketing function.
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling marketing initiatives in a growing organization.
  • A track record of partnering with commercial leaders and contributing to pipeline generation, revenue growth, or market adoption.
  • Experience connecting marketing strategy, positioning, content, and communications to measurable business outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in brand strategy, earned media, and thought leadership, including successful PR campaigns and executive communications.
  • Strong writing, messaging, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex technology into compelling customer value.
  • Analytical judgment and experience measuring performance and adjusting programs based on data. Experience setting KPIs, managing budgets, and reporting to executives is strongly preferred.
  • Experience building effective teams and partnerships across Sales, Product, Customer Success, and executive leadership.
  • Experience managing complex communications in healthcare or another regulated environment is preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is highly desirable; radiology experience is a plus. Neither is required.

Leadership Approach

You combine commercial discipline with strong storytelling instincts. You are curious, collaborative, and proactive, with the ability to turn customer and market insights into action.

You bring sound judgment and composure under pressure, enjoy building teams, and are comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands-on execution. You care about the physicians and patients the company serves and can help others understand the impact of its work.

Location & Benefits

San Francisco is preferred, with priority given to candidates who can work onsite four days per week. Remote candidates located anywhere in the United States will also be considered.

Benefits for U.S.-based full-time employees include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; an HSA with employer match, FSA, and dependent care FSA; a 401(k); 11 paid company holidays; flexible PTO; company and team offsites; and an annual equipment stipend.
