We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and support scalable services using Scala, Java, and Akka technologies. This individual will work on complex software development initiatives, drive technical solutions, mentor other engineers, and support applications through development, integration testing, and customer acceptance testing.

Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and support scalable services using Scala, Java, and Akka technologies. This individual will work on complex software development initiatives, drive technical solutions, mentor other engineers, and support applications through development, integration testing, and customer acceptance testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain services using Scala, Java, and Akka.
- Work independently to identify and resolve complex application and technical issues.
- Develop and enhance complex systems and infrastructure components supporting multiple applications.
- Drive application development with a focus on delivering high-value business features.
- Develop structured, maintainable application and interface code.
- Mentor software engineers and provide technical guidance and support.
- Establish and promote software development best practices to maintain high standards of quality.
- Identify opportunities for technical and process improvement across the development team.
- Create and maintain technical, operational, and user documentation.
- Partner with end users and internal stakeholders to support application development, debugging, and testing.
- Perform integration and customer acceptance testing to ensure application accuracy, interoperability, completeness, and quality.
- Support the planning and execution of complex development initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of software development experience using Java 8+
- 3+ years of Scala programming experience
- 2+ years of experience with Akka technologies, including:
- Akka Streams
- Akka Actors
- Akka HTTP
- Akka Persistence
- Strong software development and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working independently on complex software applications and systems.
- Experience with integration testing and customer acceptance testing.
- Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical direction.
- Chicago-based candidates are preferred
- 100% remote candidates will also be considered
- Collaborative team environment with approximately 20 team members
