Job Description

Preschool Teacher – Early Childhood Education

First Years Preschool | Venice, Los Angeles, CA | On-site

Company Description

First Years Preschool is a small, NAEYC-accredited preschool located in Venice, California. We provide a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where children are encouraged to explore, build meaningful relationships, and develop confidence and independence.

Our educational philosophy is rooted in a play-based, constructivist approach that emphasizes social-emotional development, creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning. Inspired by children's natural curiosity, we create meaningful learning experiences that connect children with their environment, their peers, and the world around them.

We believe in recognizing each child as an individual and fostering a strong sense of community among children, educators, and families. Our small classroom sizes allow teachers to build meaningful connections with children and support their development through thoughtful, responsive teaching.

Role Description

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated Preschool Teacher to join our teaching team in our younger classroom, serving children ages 2 to 3½.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic early childhood educator who values play-based learning, understands the importance of social-emotional development, and enjoys working collaboratively in a small, nurturing school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and stimulating classroom environment that supports each child's individual development.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Support children's social-emotional growth, independence, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Observe and document children's development, interests, and emerging abilities.
  • Facilitate hands-on exploration, creative expression, outdoor learning, and meaningful play experiences.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues through open and respectful communication.
  • Use positive guidance strategies to support children's emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and social interactions.
  • Maintain classroom routines and ensure compliance with California childcare licensing requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school community events.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a preschool or early childhood education setting preferred.
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Experience with or interest in play-based, emergent, Reggio Emilia-inspired, or constructivist approaches to early childhood education.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create nurturing relationships with young children while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
  • Creativity, patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Familiarity with positive guidance and social-emotional learning practices.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
