Job Description

Litigation Attorney, Medical Malpractice Defense | Jacksonville, FL | Paid well, depends on experience | Medical Malpractice

Juries remember the lawyer who can walk them through an anesthesia record without looking down at a single note. They rarely remember the one who read it aloud.

That kind of fluency isn't something you're born with. It's built, file by file, by senior trial lawyers who sit next to you and show you how they think. Plenty of good attorneys never get that. They get volume, a billing target and an inbox. I'm hiring for a Jacksonville medical malpractice defense team that does it differently, and I'd like to tell you about it properly.

Who I'm looking for

• 3 to 10 years of litigation experience and a member of the Florida Bar

• Medical malpractice defense experience preferred

• Bodily injury or personal injury attorneys with some medical exposure are welcome too, as long as you have a real interest in moving into med mal. Interest counts here, not just a list of prior med mal files

• Trial experience preferred but not essential. If you haven't stood up in front of a jury yet, this is a very good place to start

The work

• Defending physicians, nurses, hospitals and other healthcare providers in claims that turn on the standard of care

• Working through medical records, building chronologies and preparing your own clients for deposition

• Taking and defending expert depositions, from treating doctors to retained specialists

• Hearings, mediations and trial work, with the responsibility growing as you do

• 1,950 billable hours, office based in Jacksonville, with some flexibility when you need it

Why this one is different

• You'll be working alongside some of the best med mal attorneys in the industry. People who have tried these cases for years and still enjoy the puzzle

• Mentorship is part of the job, not a slogan. Senior trial lawyers will train you, review your work, bring you into their trials and then hand you more of your own

• You'll build your skills as a med mal trial lawyer in a structured way: expert cross examination, client preparation, motion practice, jury work

• There's a real path to partner. Not a vague promise for some point next decade, but a route that gets talked about openly and is measured on what you actually do

• For a 3rd year, that means a steep learning curve with proper support. For someone at 8 or 10 years, it means first chair work, client relationships and a seat at the table when partnership is discussed

Pay

I'm not putting a figure on this one. You'll be paid well, and the number depends on your experience. A 4th year and a 10th year shouldn't be squeezed into the same band, so we'll talk about where you fit when we speak.

A final thought

Medical malpractice is one of the few practices where the better you get, the more interesting it becomes. The medicine keeps changing, the experts keep getting sharper, and the trial lawyer who can make all of it simple for a jury is worth a great deal. This firm wants to help you become that lawyer.
