Job Description
Logistics Specialist- Des Plaines, IL
$37/hour -$41/hour (Plus full health benefits, 2 weeks PTO, 401(k) match)
About Us
We’re a mid-sized manufacturer of precision-engineered components used in industrial machinery, automotive applications, and power equipment. With more than 35 years in the industry and operations across four U.S. locations, we work with a network of customers, suppliers, and distribution partners to keep critical components moving where they need to go.
Behind every finished product is a coordinated supply chain, and that’s where this role comes in. We’re looking for a Logistics Specialist who can keep shipments organized, make smart use of available freight capacity, and stay on top of the details that make the difference between an on-time delivery and a missed commitment.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and coordinate outbound shipments, including multi-stop loads and freight consolidations, to make the most efficient use of available capacity.
- Review shipment details to ensure loads are rated accurately, scheduled appropriately, and aligned with customer delivery requirements.
- Monitor load utilization, transit times, pickup appointments, and past-due orders to keep shipments on track.
- Communicate with carriers and shipping partners to confirm appointments, check shipment status, and resolve delays or scheduling issues.
- Work closely with Customer Service, shipping, and other internal teams to coordinate priorities and keep everyone informed of changes.
- Build productive working relationships with customers and carriers to support reliable service and resolve day-to-day transportation issues.
- Maintain accurate shipment records and follow through on outstanding transportation issues until they’re resolved.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 2 years of experience in logistics coordination, freight coordination, load planning, or a similar transportation role (LTL/TL).
- Experience in Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Experience coordinating shipments and working directly with freight carriers.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, catch scheduling issues, and follow through when plans change.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, carriers, and internal teams.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical, problem-solving approach to day-to-day logistics.
The right fit: Someone who understands the moving parts behind a shipment, stays ahead of potential issues, and can balance efficiency with customer commitments.
