Job Description
Description:
- Seeking an experienced engineer with a powertrain calibration background and strong software skills to support our Drivetrain and Hybrid Calibration team. You will build and maintain the internal tools, scripts, and applications that make our calibration engineers more efficient and simplify team administration.
- Because they already understand how a calibration team develops and manages software, they will be able to identify pain points, design tools that fit our existing workflow, and deliver them with minimal supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and maintain engineering tools in Matlab, Python, and Microsoft Power Apps, as well as web-based tools (HTML/JavaScript) and databases (e.g., SQLite), to automate calibration workflows, data processing, and administrative tasks, and to share results across the team.
- Build scripts and utilities in Unix/Linux environments to support powertrain software compilation, builds, and file management on the servers where the software is stored.
- Analyze calibration and test data to produce insights, reports, and visualizations that support engineering decisions.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development and prototype ideas quickly, while reviewing and validating all generated code.
- Manage source code with Subversion and GitHub, following good branching, committing, and review practices.
- Support powertrain software releases, including packaging, versioning, release notes, deployment, and user communication, in line with the team's software management process.
- Work with calibration engineers to understand their development flow, scope the work, and prioritize requests with the team lead.
- Provide documentation and user training and handle bug fixes and feature requests.
- Document tools and code thoroughly so they can be maintained and handed over to the team at the end of the engagement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-6 years of professional experience, including hands-on experience in a powertrain calibration team (e.g., engine, transmission, electrified drivetrain, or HV systems).
- Demonstrated track record of building and delivering engineering tools that teams actually use. Applicants must be able to describe specific examples: the problem, the tool built, who used it, and the measurable result (e.g., hours saved, errors reduced, process standardized).
- Solid understanding of the calibration development flow and software management flow, such as calibration data handling, baseline and change management, software/calibration release, and integration with software teams.
- Proficiency in Python with a track record of delivering tools that others actually use.
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux (Solaris or Ubuntu), including the command line and shell scripting, with the ability to work on servers where powertrain software is stored and compiled.
- Experience with version control using Subversion and GitHub.
- Experience in data analysis: cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing engineering or test data.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate.
- Experience with SQL or other databases, and dashboarding tools such as Power BI.
- Experience using AI coding assistants effectively in a development workflow.
- Experience supporting the software release process, including testing, versioning, and documentation.
- Ability to work independently, manage your own tasks, and communicate clearly with calibration engineers.
- Willingness to comply with company IT security, data protection, and confidentiality requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with drivetrain calibration specifically.
- Familiarity with Toyota calibration tools and data formats.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
- Manual, repetitive calibration and administrative tasks are measurably reduced.
- Tools fit naturally into the team's existing development and release flow.
- Tools are stable, well documented, and released on a predictable schedule.
- Calibration engineers spend more time calibrating and less time on data wrangling or administrative paperwork.
- Tools and knowledge transfer smoothly to the team, with no single-person dependency.
