Kodaowl, Inc. is an emerging cybersecurity technology company developing an AI-native cybersecurity intelligence platform designed to help organizations identify, understand, prioritize, and manage cybersecurity risks.
Our mission is to transform fragmented security information into actionable intelligence, informed risk decisions, and measurable security outcomes.
We are building a secure, scalable, cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS platform to serve organizations ranging from small and midsize businesses to large enterprises.
Kodaowl values innovation, security-by-design, technical excellence, practical problem-solving, and cost-efficient engineering.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Cloud & Multi-Tenant SaaS Architect (AWS) to join our growing team on a part-time basis and help establish the technical foundation for our next stage of product development and commercialization.
This is a hands-on, part-time technical leadership opportunity for an experienced AWS cloud architect with strong expertise in multi-tenant SaaS platforms, cloud security, application deployment, and scalable infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work directly with the Founder & CEO and product engineering team to design and implement Kodaowl's AWS infrastructure and establish a secure, reliable, and cost-effective SaaS architecture.
The immediate focus will be migrating our existing application from a local development environment to AWS, implementing appropriate security and tenant isolation controls, and preparing the platform for initial commercial deployment.
This role combines strategic architectural guidance with practical implementation. We are looking for someone who can design solutions, configure infrastructure, troubleshoot technical challenges, and help engineers implement best practices.
The engagement offers flexibility, meaningful technical ownership, and an opportunity to contribute to the development of an emerging cybersecurity platform.
- Design and implement secure, scalable, and cost-efficient AWS infrastructure.
- Establish appropriate AWS Organizations structures, IAM policies, networking, and environment separation.
- Configure essential AWS services, including EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and other services as appropriate.
- Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent technologies.
- Establish security monitoring, centralized logging, backup, and recovery capabilities.
- Recommend infrastructure configurations that balance scalability, reliability, security, and operating costs.
- Design secure multi-tenant SaaS architecture with appropriate customer data isolation.
- Establish tenant-aware authentication, authorization, and access controls.
- Support scalable tenant onboarding, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Recommend approaches for subscription entitlements, usage metering, and service limitations.
- Establish architectural standards that support future customer growth without unnecessary complexity.
- Lead the migration of existing application components from local development environments to AWS.
- Collaborate with product engineers to deploy application services, APIs, databases, and supporting components.
- Implement containerization and deployment strategies using Docker, ECS, or other appropriate technologies.
- Establish secure CI/CD pipelines and repeatable deployment procedures.
- Configure PostgreSQL databases, backup procedures, and performance monitoring.
- Troubleshoot deployment, integration, performance, and infrastructure issues.
- Apply AWS security best practices and security-by-design principles.
- Implement least-privilege access, encryption, secrets management, and secure network configurations.
- Establish tenant isolation and security controls for customer-facing services.
- Support secure execution and isolation of cybersecurity assessment workloads.
- Implement monitoring, audit logging, vulnerability management, and security configuration controls.
- Recommend security practices aligned with recognized frameworks, including NIST and AWS Well-Architected principles.
- Work closely with the Founder & CEO and product engineer on architecture and implementation priorities.
- Provide technical guidance, architecture reviews, and hands-on engineering support.
- Develop concise architecture diagrams, deployment documentation, and operational procedures.
- Identify technical risks, scalability limitations, and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Support practical technical decisions aligned with Kodaowl's business objectives and commercialization timeline.
- Strong experience designing and implementing AWS-based, multi-tenant SaaS applications.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise with AWS infrastructure, networking, IAM, and security.
- Experience with AWS Organizations, account governance, and environment separation.
- Strong understanding of tenant isolation, authentication, authorization, and data security.
- Experience with Docker, ECS, Kubernetes, or similar deployment technologies.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS, and relational database architecture.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
- Knowledge of Terraform, CloudFormation, or comparable infrastructure-as-code technologies.
- Experience with cloud monitoring, logging, backup, and recovery.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a small engineering team.
- Willingness to contribute directly to infrastructure implementation rather than focusing exclusively on architectural design.
- Previous experience as a Principal Cloud Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, SaaS Architect, or Senior Cloud Engineer.
- Experience developing or supporting cybersecurity SaaS platforms.
- Familiarity with Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and modern web application architectures.
- Experience with SaaS subscription management, billing integrations, and usage-based entitlements.
- Knowledge of cloud security and compliance frameworks, including NIST, ISO 27001, and SOC 2.
- Experience with AWS cost optimization and startup cloud infrastructure.
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Security Specialty, or comparable certifications.
- Previous experience working with early-stage startups or small engineering teams.
The initial engagement will focus on establishing a secure and operational AWS environment.
Phase 1 — AWS Foundation
- Review existing application components and infrastructure requirements.
- Recommend a practical AWS deployment architecture.
- Establish essential AWS infrastructure, networking, IAM, and security controls.
- Document the initial architecture and deployment approach.
Phase 2 — Application Migration
- Deploy application services and supporting components to AWS.
- Configure PostgreSQL database connectivity and storage.
- Establish application deployment procedures and basic CI/CD capabilities.
- Validate application accessibility, integration, and functionality.
Phase 3 — SaaS Security & Operational Readiness
- Implement and test tenant isolation and access controls.
- Establish monitoring, logging, backup, and recovery procedures.
- Review infrastructure security and operational readiness.
- Identify and address critical deployment and scalability risks.
Phase 4 — Commercialization Readiness
- Support preparation for initial customer onboarding.
- Establish a foundation for subscription and usage controls.
- Optimize infrastructure costs and resource utilization.
- Recommend a practical scaling strategy for future customer growth.
The timing and scope of each phase will be agreed upon based on the selected candidate's availability and the company's development priorities.
- Flexible, part-time remote engagement.
- Opportunity to influence the architecture of an emerging cybersecurity SaaS platform.
- Direct collaboration with company leadership and product engineering.
- Meaningful technical ownership and hands-on implementation opportunities.
- Opportunity to contribute to long-term platform strategy and technical growth.
- Potential for an expanded role as the company develops, subject to business needs and mutual agreement.
We are particularly interested in experienced AWS architects who enjoy working with early-stage technology companies and can balance enterprise-grade engineering principles with practical implementation and cost efficiency.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, making sound architectural decisions, collaborating with a small team, and delivering functional infrastructure rather than producing documentation alone.
