Job Description

About the Company

CAI (Computer Aid, Inc.) is a global services firm with more than 9,000 associates worldwide and annual revenue exceeding $1.3 billion. With over 40 years of experience, the company brings together talent and technology to deliver solutions for clients across public and commercial sectors. As a privately held organization, CAI focuses on creating lasting results and advancing neurodiversity in the enterprise.

About the Role

CAI is seeking a Python/GenAI Developer to build, enhance, and support enterprise AI applications and Python-based backend services. This remote contract role focuses on Generative AI integration, large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), API development, data processing, and cloud-based deployment using Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The developer will work with solution architects, cloud infrastructure teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable AI-enabled applications throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Python-based backend services and APIs using clean, modular, production-ready code.
  • Build and integrate Generative AI workflows using LLMs, RAG pipelines, prompt orchestration, and structured-output processing.
  • Develop FastAPI-based REST endpoints for file processing, pipeline execution, asynchronous workflows, and integration with enterprise applications.
  • Implement retrieval workflows using GCP services, including Vertex AI, Vertex AI Search, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Secret Manager, and Cloud Run.
  • Develop data-processing logic for structured and unstructured inputs, including document parsing, metadata generation, validation, transformation, and downstream persistence.
  • Support integration testing, debugging, deployment, logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting across development and QA environments.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, cloud infrastructure teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into working AI features and scalable backend components.
  • Improve AI pipeline reliability through prompt engineering, output validation, error handling, retry logic, and guardrails.
  • Maintain technical documentation, API contracts, configuration files, deployment artifacts, and reusable engineering components.

Required Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of software development experience, including strong hands-on experience in Python backend development.
  • Strong understanding of programming fundamentals, object-oriented design, modular coding, exception handling, testing, and package management.
  • 1–2 years of practical experience developing Generative AI and LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, structured outputs, model invocation, response validation, token usage, and basic evaluation concepts.
  • 1–2 years of practical experience implementing RAG solutions, including document ingestion, chunking, embeddings, vector retrieval, metadata filtering, reranking, and grounding.
  • Experience building REST APIs with FastAPI, Flask, or similar Python frameworks, including endpoint development, request/response models, authentication, asynchronous processing, status handling, and API integration.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, particularly Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Vertex AI, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, IAM, and Secret Manager.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML services into enterprise applications through APIs, authentication, asynchronous processing, and cloud-native services.
  • Experience with cloud-native development, including Docker, service accounts, environment variables, secrets, CI/CD, deployment, and runtime troubleshooting.
  • Experience processing structured and unstructured formats, including JSON, JSONL, Excel, CSV, PDF, Word documents, and text.
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, containerization, and deployment workflows using Git, Docker, GitLab or GitHub, and cloud deployment pipelines.
  • Exposure to debugging distributed or cloud-hosted applications using logs, monitoring, request tracing, and error analysis.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Agentic AI frameworks or multi-step AI orchestration.
  • Familiarity with Vertex AI Vector Search, Graph RAG, or knowledge graph concepts.
  • Experience with Pub/Sub-based asynchronous processing and event-driven architectures.
  • Understanding of OAuth, service-to-service authentication, IAM, signed URLs, and secure API integration.
  • Exposure to React or frontend integration.
  • Familiarity with AI evaluation metrics, including groundedness, relevance, completeness, coherence, and confidence scoring.
  • Healthcare-domain experience, particularly in enterprise workflows, requirements, or document intelligence.

Location and Work Arrangement

  • This is a fully remote contract position. The role involves computer-based work, including prolonged sitting or remaining stationary, repetitive computer tasks, and occasional movement to attend meetings. Employees must be able to perform the essential job functions in accordance with applicable accessibility standards. Reasonable accommodations are available during the application, interview, testing, and selection processes by contacting [email protected] or calling (888) 824-8111.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range is $65–$70 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on location, experience, and education.

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as access to a 401(k) retirement account. Employees may also be eligible for paid sick leave and other paid time off as required by applicable law.
