Typically does: Registered Nurses in Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) monitor patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. They assess vital signs, manage pain, and observe for any adverse reactions to anesthesia or surgery. Responsibilities include administering medications, providing patient education, and coordinating with surgeons and anesthesiologists. PACU nurses ensure a smooth transition for patients as they awaken and stabilize before moving to a general recovery area.
Tools and skills: Proficiency in patient assessment, medication administration, electronic health records, and familiarity with cardiac monitoring equipment, IV pumps, and respiratory support devices are generally required.
