Typically does: Registered Nurses in the Emergency Room provide direct patient care to individuals experiencing acute illness or injury. They assess patients, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and perform various medical procedures as directed by physicians. Emergency Room RNs also educate patients and their families about conditions and treatment plans, and maintain accurate patient records. They work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, often triaging patients and responding to critical situations.
Tools and skills: Proficiency in electronic health record systems, IV insertion, phlebotomy, wound care, and strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills are generally required.
