About Us
Western Natural Resources (WNR) is a privately held, Oklahoma City–based oil and gas company focused on acquiring, developing, and operating high-quality upstream energy assets. Founded through a strategic partnership between Centalion and experienced energy leaders, WNR combines deep industry expertise, disciplined execution, and a long-term approach to building a premier energy company.
WNR is a rapidly growing organization with an entrepreneurial culture where collaboration, integrity, safety, and accountability are central to how we operate. As the company expands its asset base and team, employees have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, work closely with experienced industry leaders, and help build the infrastructure and culture of a growing energy company.
Position Summary
Western Natural Resources is hiring a Senior Data Analyst – Engineering to turn engineering, production, and operational data into decisions that improve well performance, reduce downtime, and lower operating costs. The work is business analytics and reporting: writing SQL in Databricks, building dashboards and automated reports, and working directly with the reservoir engineering, production, completions, and drilling teams who use them.
This is a hands-on role on a small team, and it calls for someone with real upstream oil and gas experience who understands how the data is generated in the field and how engineers and operators use it. You will be the link between the data, the engineers, and the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze production, drilling, completions, reservoir, and facilities data to identify trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities.
- Write and maintain SQL queries in Databricks to deliver trusted datasets and ad hoc analysis for engineering and operations.
- Build and maintain dashboards and automated reports (daily production, KPIs, lease operating expense, downtime, decline performance) for engineers, management, and field teams.
- Support reserves evaluation, decline curve analysis, AFE tracking, and budget-vs-actual variance analysis.
- Design and maintain SQL queries and curated datasets across SCADA, production accounting, land, and engineering data, working with the data engineering team on the pipelines behind them.
- Establish and enforce data quality standards, including validation rules, audits, and corrections of errors in source systems.
- Translate complex findings into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Partner with production, reservoir, drilling, completions, and facilities engineers on data needs and analysis priorities.
- Work with IT, accounting, and field operations to improve data flow between systems.
- Identify and lead automation opportunities that reduce manual reporting and data entry.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a quantitative field, or equivalent experience in oil and gas
- 6+ years of direct upstream oil and gas experience, including at least 3 years in a data analysis, production surveillance, or engineering support role
- Strong understanding of upstream operations across production, completions, and drilling, including well types, SCADA data, well testing, and production allocation, and working knowledge of reservoir engineering fundamentals such as decline curve analysis and reserves
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, including writing queries against large datasets in Databricks or a comparable cloud platform, and in Excel (Power Query, pivot tables, advanced formulas; VBA a plus)
- Experience with at least one BI platform such as Spotfire, Power BI, or Tableau
- Working knowledge of Python or R for data analysis and automation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with oil and gas industry systems such as WellView, Aries, ComboCurve, Spotfire, On Demand Land (ODL), Enertia, and SCADA, as well as OFM, Enverus, Peloton, or Quorum
- Experience with Databricks, Azure, or AWS data platforms
- Familiarity with machine learning methods for production optimization
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary + performance-based incentives
- High visibility with engineering leadership and management
- A modern cloud data stack, with real input into how reporting and analytics are built
- Flat, collaborative team structure with fast decision-making
