Overview

The Senior Data Engineer at Avesta Computer Services will play a pivotal role in enhancing our property reinsurance and specialty reinsurance data landscape. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, constructing, maintaining, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and architectures that facilitate reliable data access and analytics. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the data infrastructure aligns with business needs, drives data-centric initiatives, and supports decision-making processes while adhering to best practices in data governance.

Job Responsibilities

• Design and implement data processing frameworks and models to accommodate various data sources and consumption patterns in the reinsurance sector.
• Develop and maintain scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to streamline data integration and improve data quality.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide support for data-driven projects.
• Ensure data governance and compliance with relevant regulations, transforming raw data into actionable insights while safeguarding sensitive information.
• Monitor and optimize the performance of data pipelines, troubleshooting issues as they arise to ensure timely data delivery.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve existing data infrastructure.
• Write technical documentation related to data architecture, frameworks, and processes to enhance operational efficiency and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, preferably within the reinsurance or insurance industry.
• Proficiency in data modeling, ETL processes and best practices, as well as experience with data warehousing concepts.
• Strong expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with big data technologies and frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka.
• Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Understanding of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) related to data storage and processing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Technologies & Tools

The Senior Data Engineer will work with a variety of technologies and tools including but not limited to Python, SQL, Hadoop, Spark, AWS services (such as S3 and Redshift), Apache Kafka, and various data visualization tools.
