Job Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services to support Square’s credit card functionalities.
• Collaborate with product managers and front-end engineers to define and implement APIs and solid integration points.
• Optimize existing systems for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, flexibility, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, providing timely solutions and ensuring system integrity.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including planning, estimating, and delivering on project timelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of learning and innovation within the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Go.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development practices.
• Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Familiarity with CI/CD frameworks and DevOps practices.
