This engineer will work closely with systems, hardware, applications, FA software, EFEM/automation, and other engineering functions to ensure reliable operation and integration of Femtometrix systems.

The position requires occasional international travel to Korea to support system integration, customer installations, troubleshooting, and other engineering activities.

A candidate who also has the leadership experience required for the System Software Manager position may ultimately fill both roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete knowledge transfer from the current FemtoController owner by EOY.
  • Develop, maintain, debug, and release system-level control software.
  • Integrate software with Femtometrix instrumentation and hardware, FA software, EFEM and wafer-handling automation, motion-control systems, and other system subsystems.
  • Diagnose system-level problems spanning software, hardware, communications, and automation.
  • Improve software architecture, reliability, maintainability, diagnostics, and error handling.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces between system components.
  • Support system integration, qualification, manufacturing, field deployment, and customer issues.
  • Provide on-site engineering support in Korea as required.
  • Follow appropriate software-development practices including source control, code review, testing, release management, and documentation.
  • Work closely with systems engineering and other software developers to define and implement system requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Significant experience developing software for complex hardware-based systems.
  • Experience with C#
  • Strong software development and debugging skills.
  • Experience with system-control software involving multiple hardware subsystems.
  • Ability to rapidly understand and assume ownership of an existing software codebase.
  • Experience debugging problems across software/hardware boundaries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, fast-moving engineering organization.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally, including occasional travel to Korea.
  • Experience with version control.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following is particularly valuable:

  • Semiconductor capital equipment
  • Metrology, inspection, or analytical instrumentation
  • Code development in Python
  • Factory automation or EFEM control
  • Wafer handling and robotics
  • Motion control
  • Equipment communications and hardware interfaces
  • Multi-threaded or distributed control systems
