Job Description

Role:

Build, maintain, and optimize a software ecosystem enabling robot engineers to write, test, simulate, and deploy local autonomy, coverage and motion planning, and computer vision algorithms efficiently, productively, and safely. Bridge cloud infrastructure, simulation environments, user interfaces and experience, and physical hardware.

Responsibilities:

-      CI/CD Pipeline Maintenance: Build, monitor, and optimize automated build and test pipelines specifically tailored for complex robotics stacks like ROS2, C++, and Python.

-      Simulation & Testing Infrastructure: Support the scaling and stability of simulation pipelines (e.g., Isaac Sim, MuJoCo) and planning libraries (e.g., Roboplan, noether, tesseract) so robot engineers can run virtual regressions before testing on physical hardware.

-      Developer Tooling: Develop and maintain internal CLI tools, scripts, and local development environments to ensure seamless, deterministic software environments that eliminate "it works on my machine" issues.

-      Data Pipelines & Telemetry: Build internal tools that ingest, process, and visualize robot logs and telemetry data to help autonomy engineers diagnose edge cases and field failures faster.

-      User Interfaces and User Experiences: Develop and continuously improve custom developer dashboards, data visualizers, user interfaces, and web-based telemetry interfaces

-      Documentation & Onboarding: Maintain clear documentation, READMEs, and runbooks regarding infrastructure setups to make onboarding smooth for new robot engineers.

Accountability:

-      Tooling Uptime and Reliability: Accountable for ensuring that local development tools, software pipelines, and simulation environments do not block autonomy and robotics team's progress nor hinder design and testing progress.

-      Code Quality & Technical Debt: Accountable for the code quality of internal tools, adhering to engineering standards, writing comprehensive unit/integration tests, and participating actively in code.

-      SLA/SLO Adherence: Accountable for meeting target metrics regarding build/test speeds and resolving developer problem reports and bugs within agreed-upon and reasonable timeframes.

-      Security & Access Control: Accountable for following strict security protocols, ensuring tokens, cloud infrastructure credentials, and internal codebases are securely handled and rotated.

Authority:

-      Technical Design of Internal Tools: Authority to make implementation and architectural decisions on small-to-medium internal features, automation scripts, and tooling patches without needing constant managerial approval.

-      Code Review & Approval (Gatekeeping): Authority to approve or reject merge requests from peers and autonomy engineers touching internal infrastructure, ensuring they don't break the build environment.

-      Tooling Upgrades: Authority to update minor and patch versions of internal software dependencies, Docker base images, or package registries to keep the stack secure and modern.

-      Task Prioritization: Authority to manage and prioritize your own daily task ticket backlog within the boundaries of the broader sprint goals set by your team lead.
