Software Engineer

Company Description v/h is creating everyday consumer devices that solve clear, recurring problems with minimal effort from their owners. Each product combines a familiar physical experience with new capabilities driven by an embedded AI agent that handles complex tasks behind the scenes. v/h designs for local operation, ensuring core functionality works without an account, companion app, internet connection, or subscription. The team is currently developing its first product with a focus on broad usefulness, dependable results, and simplicity in daily use. Founded by Vedh Krishnan in 2026, v/h is based in the Bay Area of San Francisco, California.
Role Description This is a remote contract role for a Software Engineer focused on building core software for AI-enabled consumer devices. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing, implementing, and testing back-end services and device logic, writing clean and maintainable code, and integrating AI components into product workflows. The Software Engineer will collaborate with product and hardware teams to define technical requirements, ensure reliable local operation, and optimize performance and resource usage. The role also involves troubleshooting issues, improving system architecture, and contributing to documentation and tooling that support ongoing development and deployment.
Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and systems concepts.
• Experience with Software Development and Programming in at least one modern language (e.g., Python, Go, Rust, C++, or similar).
• Proficiency in Back-End Web Development, including APIs, services, and integration with cloud or edge components.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and their practical application in production code.
• Comfort working with embedded or resource-constrained environments, or interest in learning these domains.
• Ability to design, debug, and maintain reliable systems that can operate offline and with minimal user intervention.
• Effective remote collaboration skills, including clear written communication and familiarity with modern development tools (version control, issue tracking, CI/CD).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with AI/ML integration, edge computing, or consumer hardware products is a plus.
