I'm currently supporting a leading automotive manufacturer on a search for an experienced Systems Engineer to join its Digital Transformation team at their Jackson, TN manufacturing facility.
This is a hands-on role focused on developing and supporting Ignition-based SCADA and manufacturing data systems, connecting plant-floor equipment with enterprise applications and improving production visibility across the facility. You'll act as the bridge between manufacturing equipment, Oracle ERP, MES, and other plant systems, developing the interfaces, dashboards, reporting, and data solutions that allow production teams to make better operational decisions.
You'll work closely with Production, Controls Engineering, Maintenance, IT, and Digital Transformation teams, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being on the plant floor, solving technical problems, and having a direct impact on manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain Ignition SCADA applications, including Perspective, Vision, operator dashboards, Andon displays, and production monitoring solutions.
- Develop and maintain interfaces connecting PLCs, manufacturing equipment, Oracle ERP, MES, databases, and historians, using industrial communication protocols such as OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP, MQTT, and Modbus.
- Develop SQL queries, stored procedures, scripting solutions, and data collection applications to support production reporting, OEE, downtime analysis, quality, inventory, and operational visibility.
- Work directly with plant-floor teams across multiple departments to gather requirements, develop solutions, troubleshoot issues, and improve manufacturing data visibility.
- Provide hands-on technical support for manufacturing systems, including troubleshooting, system upgrades, testing, commissioning, and coordinating with Controls Engineering, IT, and external vendors.
Key Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation, manufacturing systems, SCADA development, or manufacturing data applications.
- Strong hands-on experience developing and supporting Inductive Automation Ignition is essential, ideally including Perspective, Vision, dashboards, and SCADA applications.
- Experience integrating manufacturing equipment and PLCs with databases, MES, ERP, and other enterprise systems, with a strong understanding of how manufacturing data flows across a plant.
- Strong SQL Server / T-SQL experience, including queries, stored procedures, database integration, and manufacturing data collection.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP, MQTT, or Modbus, alongside PLC/HMI environments, industrial networking, and manufacturing systems architecture.
If you're an experienced Ignition / SCADA professional who enjoys working directly with manufacturing operations and developing the systems that connect equipment, production data, and enterprise applications, this is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of impactful digital manufacturing projects within a major automotive operation.
