  • Assist with routine medical care and coordination of veterinary appointments.
  • Transport cats to and from veterinary appointments.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and medication logs.
  • Promptly communicate medical concerns to the Shelter Director.
  • Follow established medical, sanitation, and infection-control protocols.

Daily Cat Care & Shelter Operations

  • Provide daily hands-on care, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring cats.
  • Clean and sanitize cat rooms, litter boxes, and shelter facilities.
  • Safely handle and transport cats, including those with special medical or behavioral needs.
  • Assist with the intake and care of newly admitted cats.

Adoptions & Program Administration

  • Assist prospective adopters with meeting cats and finding appropriate matches.
  • Help facilitate adoptions and educate adopters about feline care.
  • Support the Shelter Director and team with daily administrative tasks, recordkeeping, and program coordination.
  • Assist with shelter programs, including foster care, volunteer coordination, and other initiatives.
  • Help maintain accurate records and support communication among staff, volunteers, and foster families.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to support the shelter's programs and overall operations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of two years of hands-on animal care experience, preferably with cats.

  • Compassionate, patient, and comfortable handling cats of varying temperaments.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask, follow established procedures, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to participate in all aspects of shelter operations, including cleaning, administrative tasks, and physical animal care.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, lifting, cleaning, and safely handling and transporting cats.
  • Gifford Cat Shelter is staffed 365 days a year; ability to work one weekend day per week required.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, or rescue organization.
  • Veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience.
  • Knowledge of feline health, behavior, and low-stress handling techniques.
