Job Description
Valcor Engineering Corporation | Springfield, New Jersey | On-site
Help lead a 75-year aerospace manufacturer into its next stage of growth.
Since 1951, Valcor has designed and built precision fluid control and motion control products, earning recognition for excellence in engineering and manufacturing. From rockets and satellites to military and commercial aircraft, and industrial and nuclear applications, Valcor is part of an elite ecosystem advancing the frontier of technology. Our customers include many of the best-known names in aerospace and defense. We do the hard work, and we do it all in Springfield, New Jersey.
We are privately held, profitable, and in it for the long term. Our owners know the business and make decisions on a horizon of years, not quarters. The company has grown fast, and its finances have grown more complex. We now need a true CFO, not a scorekeeper, to help steer what comes next.
The role
You will support the CEO and serve as the CEO’s right hand on every major decision: pricing, capital spending, growth, financing, and taxes. You will work closely with ownership and the Board.
Who we are looking for
You may be a sitting CFO. Or you may be a Controller or VP of Finance who already runs the full finance function of a sizable manufacturer and is ready for the title and the seat at the table. Either way, you have done this work, not just watched it done.
Why this role is different
- Real ownership. You will set the direction for finance, build the team, and modernize systems that will serve the company for the next decade.
- A seat that matters. Your analysis will shape decisions on capital, pricing, and growth, made directly with the CEO and owners.
- No layers. Ideas move from your desk to a decision in days, not months.
- Lasting impact. You will help a 75-year-old company prepare for its next 25 years.
What you will do
Strategy and leadership - Advise the CEO, ownership, and Board on strategy, capital allocation, pricing, and growth. - Lead the annual budget, multi-year plan, and scenario models. - Give owners clear, timely quarterly views of EBITDA, cash flow, and taxable income. - Evaluate capital projects, real estate decisions, and acquisitions.
Tax and treasury - Own tax planning and compliance for an S corporation and its shareholders, working with our outside CPA firm, including quarterly estimates of taxable income. - Manage cash, working capital, credit facilities, and banking relationships. - Oversee insurance and outside advisors.
Manufacturing finance - Lead cost accounting, job costing, inventory valuation, and margin analysis. - Partner with operations, engineering, and sales to sharpen quoting, cut rework and waste, and raise margins. - Get the most from our Epicor Kinetic ERP for reporting and cost visibility.
Controllership - Lead the monthly close, GAAP statements, and the annual audit. - Keep revenue recognition (ASC 606) and inventory practices documented and audit-ready. - Strengthen internal controls and build a finance team that can scale with the business.
What you bring
- 12+ years of progressive finance leadership, including full responsibility for finance at a manufacturer as CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller.
- Deep, hands-on command of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory, and a willingness to walk the shop floor.
- Working knowledge of S corporation tax planning and compliance.
- Strong GAAP knowledge, including ASC 606, and experience leading audits.
- Experience managing bank relationships and credit facilities.
- The judgment and candor to tell owners what they need to hear.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined under U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR).
Strongly preferred - CPA (active or inactive); MBA a plus. - Aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing experience. - Experience in a closely held or family-owned company. - Epicor or similar ERP experience.
Compensation
Base salary: $250,000–$300,000, plus an annual performance bonus and full benefits.
Location
