Construction Associate | Jacksonville, FL | $125,000 to $185,000 | Construction Litigation (Commercial)

Money moves slowly on a construction project. Pay applications get questioned, retainage gets held, change orders sit unsigned, and by the time the building is finished, three companies have three different versions of what was agreed. Somebody has to untangle that. Done well, it's some of the most satisfying commercial litigation there is.

I'm Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment, and I'm working with a Jacksonville firm that wants a construction associate for exactly this. To be clear from the start: this is commercial construction litigation, representing owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in business disputes. It is not construction defect insurance defense.

What you'd work on

• Payment disputes, delay and disruption claims, lien and bond claims, and contract fights between owners, general contractors and subcontractors

• Reviewing contracts, schedules, daily logs and correspondence to build the story of a project

• Drafting pleadings, discovery and motions, and taking and defending depositions of project managers, superintendents and experts

• Supporting arbitrations, mediations and trials, with more responsibility as you show you're ready for it

• Working closely with partners who know the industry and its clients

What I'm looking for

• 3 to 5 years of litigation experience, ideally including construction or broader commercial disputes

• Florida Bar membership

• Strong academics

• Clear writing and an organized approach to documents. Construction cases are won by the lawyer who knows the paper best

Pay

• $125,000 to $185,000

• The range is purposely broad. There's flexibility for the right candidate if experience warrants it

Why it's a good move

Construction keeps going through every cycle, and the disputes come with it. Lawyers who understand how projects really run become very valuable to the companies building them, and clients tend to stay loyal to the attorneys who've helped them through a difficult job. If you'd like a practice with a clear niche, real clients and work you can describe at a dinner party without anyone's eyes glazing over, this deserves a look.
