About the Role

ZobeLab is seeking a hands-on Lead Full Stack Engineer to lead technical development, guide architecture decisions, and help scale its web and mobile applications. This role is suited to an experienced engineer who can take ownership of the full development lifecycle, from database design and backend services to React web interfaces and React Native mobile experiences.

You'll work closely with executive, product, and design stakeholders to turn business requirements into reliable, maintainable software. Alongside substantial hands-on coding, you'll mentor and oversee one to two engineering interns, establish code quality standards, and help build an in-house development team as the platform grows.

This is a remote, fractional or part-time position with equity-only compensation until investor funding is secured. Once funding is available, there is an opportunity to transition into a full-time salaried role. Candidates should be comfortable working in an early-stage startup with evolving priorities and taking responsibility for delivering projects from design through deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using NestJS and TypeScript within a microservices architecture.
• Develop responsive web applications using React and cross-platform mobile applications using React Native for iOS and Android.
• Optimize frontend performance, including bundle sizes, rendering, memory usage, network payloads, and application responsiveness.
• Own technical delivery across the development lifecycle, from database design and architecture through implementation, deployment, and ongoing improvements.
• Translate product requirements into reliable, maintainable, and optimized software.
• Mentor and oversee one to two engineering interns, provide structured learning opportunities, conduct code reviews, and delegate technical tasks.
• Establish and maintain automated testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and architectural documentation.
• Build and improve integrations across the company's EdTech, FinTech, and MusicTech products.
• Develop and enhance AI capabilities, working with AI consultants and product teams where needed.
• Explore and integrate Metaverse, Web3, VR, AR, XR, and other immersive technologies where appropriate.
• Collaborate with executive, product, and design stakeholders on technical planning and development priorities.
• Help recruit, lead, and grow the engineering team as the platform expands.
• Identify technical challenges, propose practical solutions, and maintain strong standards for code quality and delivery.

Required Qualifications

• At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead engineering capacity.
• Advanced knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript, including ES6+, asynchronous programming patterns, and memory management.
• Strong production experience with NestJS, including dependency injection, modules, guards, interceptors, and microservices architecture.
• Extensive experience building complex, state-driven applications using React and React Native for iOS and Android.
• Demonstrated experience optimizing frontend performance, including profiling re-renders, virtualizing long lists, image caching, offline-first synchronization, and bridging native modules.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or interns, conducting code reviews, and delegating technical work effectively.
• Practical experience with Docker, cloud deployments, and modern CI/CD workflows.
• Hands-on experience building a direct-to-consumer AI product.
• Experience publishing applications to the Apple App Store and Google Play.
• Experience with software integrations and API development.
• A strong sense of ownership and accountability, with the ability to work independently in a startup environment.
• Willingness to commit the time and effort required to contribute to a growing startup team.

Preferred Qualifications / Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI.
• Experience working with platforms serving independent artists, musicians, or other creative communities.
• Familiarity with music distribution APIs, learning management systems, or token-based ecosystems.
• Experience taking a startup product from MVP through launch and growth.
• Knowledge of AI and machine learning or experience integrating AI capabilities into software platforms.
• Experience in MusicTech, EdTech, FinTech, or Metaverse-related products.
• Interest in global creator communities, creator economies, NFTs, cryptocurrency, and emerging technologies.

Salary & Benefits

This is an equity-only position until investor funding is secured. The role is offered on a fractional or part-time basis, with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time salaried position once funding becomes available.

Equity is subject to a four-year vesting schedule with a one-year cliff.
