About The Role

We are seeking an Infrastructure Lead to join the Exchange team within Institutional at Coinbase. In this role, you will own the network infrastructure, deployment, and operational tooling that support a unified trading platform operating across cloud and on-premises/colocated venues. This platform enables some of the world’s largest financial institutions to trade with speed, depth, and trust. You will be responsible for maintaining latency-sensitive, multi-node trading environments that prioritize reliability and performance. This position offers the opportunity to shape trading infrastructure with the autonomy of a startup and the scale of a global organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in network, infrastructure, or SRE engineering with ownership of production systems in financial services, electronic trading, or other latency-sensitive environments, including on-premises and colocated deployments.
• Expertise in multicast networking, BGP, OSPF, VRFs, and high-availability network architectures.
• Proficiency with low-latency data-center switching and physical network infrastructure.
• Experience leading live incident response for production trading systems and managing risk during change implementations.
• Hands-on knowledge of Fortinet or Palo Alto firewalls, VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL), and network telemetry tools such as SNMP or gRPC.
• Strong skills in network automation using Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Solid understanding of Linux networking fundamentals in latency-critical environments.
• Familiarity with exchange or electronic trading systems is preferred; deep cryptocurrency experience is a plus but not required.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to enhance workflow efficiency, cost management, and quality.
  
  

Responsibilities

• Own, operate, and optimize resilient, ultra-low-latency network and physical data-center infrastructure supporting institutional trading, market data, and exchange connectivity across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Manage racking, cabling, cross-connects, and vendor coordination for data-center operations.
• Design and maintain routing, traffic segmentation, and multicast market-data architectures utilizing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VRFs, PIM, and IGMP.
• Implement and manage high-availability platforms including Arista MLAG, Cisco vPC, and VRRP.
• Deploy and operate firewalls and secure connectivity using Fortinet and Palo Alto platforms, including IPsec VPNs, SSL VPNs, and third-party connections.
• Drive observability and operational excellence through telemetry (SNMP, gRPC), latency and packet-loss analysis, microburst detection, and network automation.
• Lead safe production changes, incident response, failover testing, and out-of-hours maintenance for 24/7 trading systems.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure continuous system reliability.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate cross-functionally with SRE/Infrastructure, Product, and trading-system teams to improve system reliability, reduce single points of failure, and increase developer velocity.
