Job Description
About the Company
Turing is an AI infrastructure company that works with leading AI research organizations to accelerate model development. The company supports this work through high-quality training data, model evaluations, and engineering talent.
About the Role
Turing is seeking a Remote TypeScript Engineer with strong technical judgment, hands-on experience with preference data and rubric creation, and a clear understanding of what makes high-quality examples effective. You will help improve AI model development by evaluating data, refining quality criteria, and building the infrastructure needed to support data generation and evaluation workflows.
The ideal candidate communicates complex technical findings clearly, works effectively in fast-moving environments, and can turn qualitative judgments into practical, repeatable processes. This role is fully remote and offers the opportunity to contribute to projects involving leading large language model (LLM) companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, refine, and improve rubrics and evaluation criteria for preference data.
- Review and label data against high-quality standards, identifying subtle issues and inconsistencies.
- Build and maintain pipelines and infrastructure that support data generation, collection, and evaluation workflows.
- Analyze findings from data-related work and communicate results through clear, structured reports, updates, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to turn qualitative assessments into scalable evaluation processes.
- Help maintain consistent data quality and support improvements to AI model training and evaluation.
- Work efficiently in an evolving technical environment, balancing careful evaluation with timely delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in TypeScript or Python, particularly for building and maintaining pipelines or infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with preference data collection, rubric creation, or both.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex technical work in concise, actionable terms.
- Sound technical judgment and the ability to explain why a particular example, implementation, or result meets a high-quality standard.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience navigating, contributing to, or working with large codebases, such as Visual Studio Code (VS Code), particularly for candidates using TypeScript.
- Experience supporting data collection, labeling, evaluation, or AI model development workflows.
- Ability to translate subjective quality assessments into clear criteria that can be applied consistently at scale.
Salary & Benefits
Compensation is offered at a market rate. Applicants should provide a specific expected rate rather than a salary range to help assess mutual fit.
Additional details include:
- Work arrangement: Fully remote.
- Employment type: Independent contractor. Medical insurance and paid leave benefits are not included.
- Contract duration: Approximately three months, with an expected start as soon as possible.
- Availability: A commitment of 40 hours per week is preferred, with at least six hours of overlap with Pacific Time. Candidates available for fewer hours should specify their weekly availability and preferred overlap window.
- Project exposure: Opportunity to contribute to AI projects involving leading LLM companies.
Interview Process
The selection process consists of one interview lasting approximately 30 minutes, covering technical skills and cultural fit.
