Duties And Responsibilities
- Dashboard design and construction. Designs and builds dashboards in Tableau, Epic Radar, and other approved business intelligence platforms for executive leadership, committees, service lines, and departments. Builds to the stated audience and the decision the dashboard is meant to inform, rather than presenting all available data.
- Epic dashboard development. Builds and configures Epic Radar dashboards and component metrics within the Cogito reporting suite, and links them to the underlying Reporting Workbench and SlicerDicer content where appropriate.
- Dashboard maintenance. Maintains every published dashboard as a live product. Monitors scheduled refreshes, corrects broken data connections, calculations, and filters, and updates dashboards when source data, measure definitions, or audiences change. Reports any interruption in a published product promptly.
- Performance and refresh management. Tunes query and extract performance so that dashboards refresh within their scheduled windows, and sizes refresh frequency to how the dashboard is actually used rather than defaulting to the shortest interval.
- Data modeling for dashboards. Builds and maintains the data sources, extracts, joins, and calculated fields behind each dashboard, drawing on Epic Clarity and Caboodle, Snowflake, and other interfaced source systems.
- Source system extraction and reporting support. Extracts and queries data from Epic and other electronic medical record and interfaced source systems, including registries and ancillary systems, in support of dashboard construction and of reporting requests referred by the Sr. Consultant MIS Level B.
- Application of certified definitions. Builds to the certified measure definitions maintained by the unit and does not substitute an alternative definition. Where a required definition does not exist or a source conflict is found, raises it rather than resolving it independently.
- Validation before publication. Validates every dashboard before publication, including reconciliation to the source of record and comparison against a known figure where one exists. Does not publish a product that has not been validated.
- Visual design and interpretability. Designs for correct interpretation: labels measures with their definition and comparison window, distinguishes certified measures from ad hoc analysis on the face of the product, and avoids presentation that invites a conclusion the data does not support.
- Version control and change management. Applies version control to every change made to a published dashboard, and does not modify a live product without the change being recorded and approved through the unit’s process. Supports advance notice to consuming committees before a measure definition or comparison window changes.
- Dashboard inventory and lifecycle. Maintains the production dashboard inventory, recording owner, source, calculation, refresh cadence, and consuming audience for each, and identifies products no longer consumed for retirement review.
- Build documentation. Documents every dashboard built, recording source, query logic, calculation, refresh schedule, and consuming audience, so that any product can be maintained, corrected, or reproduced by someone other than its author.
- Advanced analytics support. Supports the development of advanced data models, forecasting algorithms, and research analytics, and leverages third-party tools including R and SAS Viya for advanced data solutions as required.
- Protected health information handling. Builds and publishes dashboards observing minimum necessary standards. Includes patient identifiers only where the approved request specifies them, restricts access by role, and publishes only to approved locations.
- Technical currency. Maintains and develops technical proficiency in Epic reporting and dashboard tooling, business intelligence platforms, and query languages, and pursues relevant certification as directed.
- Performs related duties, as assigned.
- A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or a related field of study; and
- Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in the field of data processing, computer systems and applications.
Network Services requires a telecommunications background and experience.
- Broad knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of computers, peripheral devices, communications systems and hardware capabilities, programming languages, E.D.P. applications, systems analysis methodology, data management and retrieval techniques; or
- A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education and experience
