Job Description
Position Type
Contract-to-Hire. This role begins as an initial engagement of approximately six (6) months, with conversion to a full-time employee based on performance, team fit, and business need. Candidates should be prepared to contribute to production automation work from early in the engagement.
Overview
We are seeking a Software Engineer II to independently build and maintain intelligent automation solutions focused on Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) in the healthcare industry, with a specialization in computer vision-driven RPA. In this mid-level role, you will own discrete features and automation modules end-to-end, applying strong Python skills with a heavy emphasis on OpenCV, image-based desktop automation (e.g., PyAutoGUI), and OCR workflows. You will also build and maintain browser-based automations using Selenium when the target system requires it. You will work with growing autonomy, collaborate across teams, and begin to share your technical knowledge with less experienced engineers.
Key Responsibilities
• Computer Vision Automation: Design, implement, and maintain OpenCV-driven automations for RCM workflows that depend on image recognition, template matching, document understanding, and visual element detection.
• Desktop & Image-Based RPA: Own end-to-end automation of legacy desktop and thick-client applications using image-based control (e.g., PyAutoGUI, template matching, coordinate-based interaction) where no API or DOM is available.
• OCR & Document Extraction: Apply OCR and document-parsing techniques to extract structured data from scanned EOBs, remittance advices, correspondence, and payer documents.
• Web Automation: Build and maintain Selenium-based automations for payer portals, EHR web interfaces, and other browser-based workflows as a secondary but important part of the role.
• Automation Development: Deliver robust Python automation scripts for RCM processes with limited supervision, following team coding standards and review practices.
• AI/ML Integration: Apply AI/ML techniques (e.g., OCR, NLP, predictive analytics) to enhance automation quality and improve process outcomes.
• System Integration: Integrate automation solutions with billing software, EHR systems, and healthcare web portals independently.
• Compliance: Ensure all automation adheres to healthcare data privacy and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for automation workflows you own.
• Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize automations for accuracy, efficiency, and reliability — particularly for CV-based workflows that are sensitive to UI drift and image variability.
• Resilience: Build automation workflows that integrate reliably with legacy desktop systems, Citrix/virtual environments, and modern web platforms.
• Collaboration: Work alongside SMEs and operations teams to translate manual workflows into digital automation.
• Security: Maintain secure credential handling, logging, and audit trails consistent with HITRUST/HIPAA compliance.
• Cloud Services: Leverage Azure services (e.g., Azure Functions, Azure Storage, Key Vault) to build scalable automation.
• Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and code review support to Software Engineer I teammates.
Requirements
• 2+ years professional Python, hands-on OpenCV and PyAutoGUI experience in production,
some Selenium, healthcare/HIPAA exposure a plus.
• Strong proficiency in Python programming.
• Hands-on, production experience with OpenCV for image recognition, template matching, and visual data extraction.
• Experience with image-based desktop automation libraries (e.g., PyAutoGUI) and comfort automating applications that expose no API or DOM.
• Working experience with Selenium for browser-based automation.
• Working knowledge of healthcare RCM workflows (e.g., billing, coding, claims, denial management).
• Solid understanding of HIPAA and healthcare security best practices.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and documentation skills.
• Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Proficiency with version control tools (e.g., Git).
• 2+ years of professional software development experience in Python or a closely related language.
• Ability to ramp quickly in a contract engagement and deliver production work with limited onboarding.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex data and workflow scenarios, including non-deterministic visual environments.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Practical experience with OCR engines (e.g., Tesseract, PaddleOCR) or cloud document-intelligence services.
• Experience automating applications inside Citrix, RDP, or other virtualized/remote environments where image-based control is required.
• Practical experience applying AI/ML tools such as NLP or predictive modeling to automation use cases.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to automation of healthcare revenue cycle workflows including eligibility, claims processing, payments, and denials management.
• Experience integrating with third-party healthcare software (EHR/EMR systems, billing software, etc.).
• Familiarity with EHR/billing systems and healthcare web portals.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms (e.g., Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Key Vault, App Services).
• Experience developing APIs or integrating with third-party APIs.
• Working knowledge of logging, alerting, or observability tools.
• Prior success in a contract or contract-to-hire role with a smooth conversion to full-time.
