About The Company

Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is a national asset dedicated exclusively to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. For more than 75 years, the organization has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained Navy personnel to help ensure the safe and reliable operation of U.S. submarines and aircraft carriers. Its nearly 8,000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support professionals work at facilities and other locations across the country. NNL’s culture is grounded in trust, empowerment, collaboration, safety, and pride in supporting a vital national mission.

In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams, including software developers, database architects, data analysts, and data scientists. You will help shape strategic data initiatives and deliver reliable, effective data solutions that align with project needs throughout QPI and NNL. The position may be based at either the Knolls or Bettis location and offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, mission-focused work.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations: a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and at least nine years of relevant experience; a master’s degree in a related engineering or science field and at least seven years of relevant experience; or a doctorate in a related engineering or science field and at least three years of relevant experience.

Preferred qualifications include programming experience with VBA, Python, or R; familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools such as Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI; and experience with SharePoint, including PrimeNet and NNPPNet. Successful candidates bring sound analytical judgment, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to varied stakeholders. All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will undergo a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Responsibilities

Maintain large datasets and develop data pipelines that connect with critical data systems. Lead and manage QPI data governance policies, practices, and tools. Provide technical support and oversight for data engineering applications, helping ensure that solutions are dependable and consistent with organizational needs. Work with stakeholders and technical partners to identify requirements, improve data delivery, and support strategic initiatives from planning through implementation.

Provide technical and programmatic leadership in an assigned area, including mentoring and training colleagues. Develop original experimental or analytical methods, approaches, and procedures, and define specifications for data analyses. Promote sound data practices and help ensure that data infrastructure supports accurate, useful, and timely analysis.

Benefits

NNL offers a comprehensive benefits program that includes health, dental, vision, disability, life, and accident insurance; a 401(k) savings program and Capital Accumulation Plan; personal and medical time off; paid parental leave; and flexible work schedules. Additional offerings include tuition assistance for eligible employees, a student debt benefit, a personal time-off sell program, an Employee Assistance Program, and wellness resources. The annual pay range for this position is $129,300 to $206,100. Salary is a general guideline and will be determined based on experience, qualifications, market conditions, and business considerations.

Employment is contingent on meeting applicable requirements, including passing a drug test in accordance with company policy and 10 CFR 707.
