Job Description

We are working with an ambitious, fast-growing technology company focused on developing advanced infrastructure for secure, AI-driven enterprise environments. Its technology enables intelligent agents to connect with business applications, access organizational resources, and execute sophisticated workflows across complex enterprise ecosystems.

The company's platform brings together modern cloud architecture, enterprise software connectivity, and sophisticated security and identity frameworks to make AI-powered automation possible within existing corporate technology environments.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling the foundational backend systems behind this technology. You will contribute to distributed architecture, cloud-native services, enterprise identity infrastructure, and third-party application connectivity. Working closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams, you will help define technical direction while taking ownership of critical systems throughout their development, deployment, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable backend infrastructure and distributed services that support enterprise AI applications.
  • Build and improve identity infrastructure, including authentication mechanisms, authorization policies, access controls, tenant management, user provisioning, and identity lifecycle processes.
  • Develop and maintain integrations with major enterprise software and collaboration platforms, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, email services, and telecommunications providers.
  • Engineer secure APIs, service interfaces, and integration layers that allow AI agents to communicate with enterprise applications and execute permission-based workflows.
  • Drive technical projects from architectural design and requirements analysis through implementation, testing, production releases, and ongoing operational support.
  • Evaluate infrastructure performance, resolve complex backend challenges, and implement improvements to system availability, security, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to establish sound architectural practices and ensure the long-term reliability of core platform components.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, distributed computing, or systems development.
  • Proven ability to develop and support production-grade software, with an understanding of distributed architecture, application security, performance optimization, and system reliability.
  • Experience taking engineering projects through the full development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving capabilities, particularly when addressing complex infrastructure and software engineering challenges.
  • Ability to contribute across multiple backend technology domains and participate in system architecture and broader engineering decisions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Base Salary: $285,000–$330,000, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated technical capabilities.
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with the position based in San Francisco, California.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage for employees and eligible dependents.
  • Access to an employer-sponsored 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Employment visa sponsorship available for qualified applicants.

The Opportunity

Join an emerging technology company working at the intersection of enterprise infrastructure, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. The engineering team is tackling important technical challenges associated with enabling AI systems to securely access, communicate with, and operate within complex enterprise environments.
