Who asks for it
Public bodies in Kenya ask for clearances under Chapter Six of the Constitution. The National Police Service Commission's January 2025 advert, for example, asked shortlisted candidates for manager posts and above for clearance certificates from KRA, HELB, EACC, CRB and DCI. (npsc.go.ke)
How to get it
Apply on eCitizen at dci.ecitizen.go.ke: choose where your fingerprints will be taken, pay, then print two copies of the invoice and one copy of the C24 form on both sides of an A4 sheet. (dci.go.ke)
Take the C24 form, the invoices and your original National ID to the place you chose for fingerprinting. (dci.go.ke)
16 and 17-year-olds apply through a parent's or guardian's eCitizen account and bring their original birth certificate. (dci.go.ke)
Foreign residents in Kenya apply on the same site, with proof that they have lived in Kenya for 6 months or more. (dci.go.ke)
Where to go
Fingerprints are taken at any Huduma Centre, at DCI Headquarters, at the Refugee Affairs Secretariat for refugees, and at Kenya's embassies and high commissions for people abroad. (dci.go.ke)
How long it takes
The DCI says that, all things equal, a certificate now takes 24 hours from fingerprinting, down from two weeks. (dci.go.ke)
You get an SMS when it is ready, and download it from your eCitizen account. (dci.go.ke)
How long it lasts
The certificate speaks for the day it was issued: it shows your record as of that date. (dci.go.ke)
Every new certificate needs fresh fingerprints. (dci.go.ke)
How an employer checks it
An employer can check a certificate at dci.ecitizen.go.ke/verify, or by sending DCI to 21546 and then dialling *512#. (dci.go.ke)
