About us: Texas Specialty Underwriters is a Specialty Lines Managing General Agency and surplus lines broker. We partner with independent retail agencies to place excess and surplus (E&S) and specialty lines business.

The role

The Agency Communication Center is our direct line to the appointed agencies we serve. Specialists reach out to agency owners and customer service representatives (CSRs) to understand what they need and help them write more business with us.

You will talk with agencies about new business opportunities, renewal quotes, pricing, consumer trends and our specialty lines of business. You will bring what you learn back to our underwriting and marketing teams, so we can respond faster and serve agencies better. This is a relationship role for someone who knows the E&S distribution channel from the inside.

Key responsibilities

• Make regular outbound calls and emails to appointed agencies, building relationships with agency owners, producers and CSRs.
• Discuss new business opportunities and help agencies identify accounts that fit our specialty and E&S appetite.
• Follow up on open quotes and upcoming renewals to support quote-to-bind and retention goals.
• Explain pricing, coverage, eligibility and submission requirements across our specialty lines of business.
• Gather agency feedback on market conditions, competitor activity, pricing pressure and consumer trends.
• Share insights with underwriting, marketing and management, and help route agency questions to the right person.
• Answer agency questions about submissions, quote status and doing business with TSU, escalating issues when needed.
• Keep accurate records of every agency contact in our agency management or CRM system.
• Promote new products, program changes and appetite updates to the agency network.
• Help shape the processes, call scripts and reporting for this new department as it grows.

Required qualifications

• Knowledge of the excess and surplus (E&S) insurance distribution channel, including how retail agencies, wholesalers, MGAs and carriers work together.
• Working knowledge of retail insurance agency operations and wholesale insurance.
• Strong phone and written communication skills, with confidence speaking to agency owners and CSRs.
• Organized and self-directed, able to manage a high volume of agency contacts and follow-ups.
• Comfortable with Microsoft Office, email and CRM or agency management systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications

• Active Texas Property & Casualty (P&C) license, or willingness to obtain one within a set period after hire.
• Experience as a CSR, account manager or producer at a retail insurance agency.
• Experience at a wholesale broker, MGA or surplus lines agency.
• Familiarity with specialty lines such as commercial general liability, property, inland marine or other hard-to-place risks.
• Insurance designations such as CIC, CISR, AINS or similar.
• Experience in outbound calling, account management or agency relations.
