Commission Calculator: Your Pay From Sales
Type your sales and your commission rate. See what you earn, and how much you need to sell for the pay you want.
How it is worked out
Commission is sales times the rate: $50,000 in sales at 5% is $2,500. Add your base pay for the same time, a month or a quarter, to see the total.
Sales you need
Take your base pay from the pay you want and divide what is left by the rate. To earn $5,000 in a month with a $2,000 base at 5%, you need $60,000 in sales.
Plans differ
Many plans pay a higher rate past a target, pay on profit instead of sales, or hold commission back until the customer pays. Your plan's written terms decide; this does the arithmetic.
Before taxes
Commission is taxed like a bonus: IRS Publication 15 (2026) lists commissions among supplemental wages. The figures here are before taxes.
