How it is worked out

The time from start to end, less the unpaid break. 8:00 to 4:30 with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours. An end earlier than the start is taken as the next day, so 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. is 8 hours.

For a time sheet

Many time sheets want hours as a decimal: minutes divided by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 is 0.5 and 45 is 0.75.
